straight women who like BL Yaoi

how this all started was when i bought a toy on ebay & it came wrapped in wadded up pages from a manga catalog. i do some painting and drawing, so these images caught my eye and i smoothed out the sheets to get a better look. one ad was for thirsty for love with this totally beautiful guy with redgold hair lying back against another guy. ive never been interested in guy- guy relations - but - i found myself going back to look at that picture - more than a couple of times -and on an impulse tracked it down and ordered the book. and was stunned at how it turned me on - yikes! im not gay - im not even bi - are there any more out there like me? wanna compare notes? 🙂

You're not alone. In fact, yaoi is female-oriented - if anything, you'd be hard pressed to find the men obsessing over this sort of stuff (but there are exceptions, of course).
I'm hetero myself, but I'm still not a big fan of BL. For my first experience, I delved straight into the hardcore material such as Love Prism and Hoshi no Yakata. I only started checking out the genre after seeing a number of shoujo scanlation groups using yaoi images in their credits page.

when i first heard about yaoi all i knew about it was that it involved gay men having relations. as a female, i thought that it had nothing to do with me. even if i'm bi, i can't really relate to guys sexually. but actually yaoi is written by straight women for straight women. so, no you're not alone. i would say its kind of similar to how there's lesbian porn designed for men. what you have to realize is that yaoi has little to do with real-life sexuality

Surprise! Yaoi is mostly (as in 99.99999%) made for straight women. I'm a hetero lady but I'm more of a shoujo-ai person (I can relate more to girls?) which makes me part of the minority. Congratulations on finding something you enjoy though 🤣 and the pool of women like you is very, VERY large

The first manga I read was a BL, but I would never ever think about having a girlfriends and my sis which also read mangas as well... My bro and sis says that it's a stage of your life... And even if it would become a hobby or passion you have nothing to scare about. 😃

I must quote it. ** I love shonen-ai, hetero stories and even shojo-ai, but I'm an hetero girl. 😀 I think that's nothing strange in it, like said from the girl's up here. **
Don't try to eat my mangas or steal my cats! e.e I smoke unicorns. D: And I have no fear to do it. -.-

Yaoi is often used to sexualize the straight woman, not the gay man, so you're definitely not alone. It's basically the demographic!

wow those two look like the really deep end of the pool :/ actually the only part of thirsty for love i was a little uncomfortable with was when it looked like they might be hurting orie - my favorite in the story (slightly twisted maternal instinct? lol) i wouldn't mind more explicit stuff but sex and hurting are pretty much mutually exclusive to me. i'm getting Rin because the same two ladies made that and i loved those drawings. any other suggestions about what i might like?

well it doesn't always involve gay men - the three guys in thirsty weren't gay, they were just looking for a way to connect with the girl they all loved who died - and having sex with each other to do it just seems so reasonable to me - like when you keep something somebody whos gone wore and you never wash it cause it smells like them and it makes you feel better to wear it or something.
i think youre probably right about lesbian porn for men parallel
i do realize it has not much to do with real life sexuality - although you know sometimes you can make life immitate art. 🙂

you're right. in fact i would say that most of the men in yaoi aren't actually gay. very few of the characters in yaoi identify as gay. most will have sex and fall in love with another guy, and still say that they're not gay. they just like one particular guy. he's the exception and normally they're straight. at first, this whole denying that they're gay thing used to annoy me. but then i started to realize that most of the guys in yaoi don't behave like real gay people. so i just had to learn to take yaoi less seriously
whether you should take yaoi serious or not, whether the guys are really gay or not, whether they behave like gays or not and who reads them all depends per person. Everyone thinks differently about it.
I mean, there are also enough people who dislike it. And it isn't true that only woman and sometimes gay man read it. I know quite some boys who enjoy it and they aren't gay, they all have girlfriends and are happy. So it doesn't really matter who reads them, and what they exactly thing about it. The main point is that they like it, otherwise they wouldn't be reading it right?
I'm a girl as well, and I love yaoi, but also enjoy reading yuri and 'normal' manga's. For me it's about the love in the story. If that's good I mostly like it. So nothing is strange whoever wants to read yaoi or whatever else 😀
