I'm looking for Japanese folk songs in horror games. Not normal folk songs like Sakura Sakura or Nanatsu no Ko but those that are really haunting and scary. Like these:

Sleeping Priestess
Hashi Zoroe

TIA.

Nobody is looking for progressive rock suggestions, but there is no mention of this band, so I'm suggesting it. The Mars Volta is one of the best bands I've listened to, and I'm not even that into prog rock. De-Loused in the Comatorium is still their best album, but every other album they made is almost as amazing.

There's also no mention of indie music. I'm not the biggest indie fan, but there are a few that really grabbed my attention. Yeasayer, Islands, The Unicorns, Tapes N' Tapes, Arctic Monkeys (still considered Indie even though they're huge in London), and Beirut. There's also Circa Survive, which is kind of a prog rock/indie hybrid. I'm not that big a fan of their's, but they have some really good songs.

It would really make my day if a couple of you could listen to this band. They're called Amely, they play pop-rock/punk-rock music, and their myspace is www.myspace.com/amely and their purevolume (this has more songs on it) is www.purevolume.com/amelymusic They released their debut EP "Hello World" September 14th, and their featured on Fearless Record's Christmas CD, "'Tis the Season to be Fearless". They're not really big, but they're on tour, and let me tell you, they really love it when fans sing along to their songs in concert.

Also, check out Breaking Tides if you don't like Amely because their style of rock is too pop-y. They broke up a few years ago, but that doesn't change the fact that they're amazing. The lead singer and the drummer are the same as in Amely, but Breaking Tides have a COMPLETELY different sound. Their myspace is www.myspace.com/breakingtides Thanks!! 😳

yaha the music nerdery! 😁

Finding a DJ with similar tastes is an easy way to find amazing stuff.

What other ways to find music online are there besides thru people, association, specific sites, keywording, stuff like podcasts/online radio, etc.?

I'm kind of hooked on songs like this. I already have some albums Hatsume Miku and Supercell, can you give me some other recommendations? I'm plainly looking for japanese electro-pop that's a teeny bit extreme. 😛

I'm really bad at determining which tracks are what genres (since I just say that it all's electro), so I'll just give you a bunch of stuff.

Booka Shade, Efterklang (it's kind of quiet music, don't know if you want some with more heavy beats), Gold Panda (I'm personall really hooked on this right now), Massive Attack (though I hope you already know them 😃 ), Modeselektor, Röyksopp (it's good, the newest album Senior is awesome, with no singing), Fever ray .. Uhm, yeah. Hope you can use one of 'em. 🙄

Brazilian Jazz (1960s Getz/Gilberto duo)

Nouvelle Vague (French bossa nova / new wave / lounge -- they do covers)
"This Is Not a Love Song" / Nouvelle Vague -- breathy, no?!
"Dancing with Myself" / Nouvelle Vague
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" / Nouvelle Vague

Clazziquai (South Korean experimental acid jazz / groove / electronic / house)
"Novabossa" / Clazziquai
"Gentle Rain" / Clazziquai

And I totally forgot the quintessential Christmas jazz album: Vince Guaraldi Trio - A Charlie Brown Christmas. I'm so tempted on listening to this right now... even if it's not Christmas, but it's so goooood.

I'm looking for recommendations on songs that has an 'exotic' vibe when listening to them...? (I know this is a bit subjective)

Examples:

China Roses
May be it-- this one has a celtic and 'elf-ish' feel to it.

Now we are free- I was overwhelmed when I first listened to this.
The Journey Home, the background singer adds an 'exotic touch' to this already beautiful song. 😛

Foreign music recommendations are better, especially if they have a middle eastern/south/eastern asian influence to them.

A unique example is Kurniaan Dalam Samaraan by Dato Siti Nurhaliza..I find the song 'exotic' because it has a Japanese Enka influence in a southeast asian song.
