This has been bugging me for awhile now, it's on the romance genre. Under the given descriptions it's supposed to be love between male x female. But EVERY TIME (!) it's also included in yaoi or shonen-ai genre's as well.
Please, PLEASE, create a new genre for boy's romance or boy's love (or whatever you want to call it) to indicate romance between male x male relationships.

romance doesn't have to exactly be for guyxgirl. romance as for romantic meaning in the love between the two people. So, i see no problem for this.

i think having 2 genress for boy x boy is enough....didn't notice the shounen-ai and the yaoi ones?...in my dictionary, yaoi = sex between 2 dudes and shounen-ai = just romance and stuff .....if a series has a romantic relationship between 2 dudes, just put shounen-ai....more genres will lead to confusion 🤢 ...take adult and mature for an instance......

Yea, they're not set in stone.. in fact we're most likely going to get rid of a few genres.

I don't see what the problem is. Romance is romance. If you don't want yaoi like many people here then just filter it out and any other genres you don't want. That way when you do a genre search for romance you won't get any yaoi. In fact you never have to see another yaoi thing again.

That was also what I thought it was, which brought me to this topic, since afterawhile it really started getting to me, that the people who were putting romance into the genre just didn't get that point.
I don't know, I just think they should be separated. Since yaoi in general is a deviation from the norm. I feel like it should be separate.

I'm not sure I get the problem... so you're doing genre searches for romance, and have some Yaoi stuff pop up? and you dislike that?
So you're suggesting an new addition to the genre for romance between people of the same gender so they don't get in your search?
Well, as it was already said, shonen ai should be somehow synonymous with romance between guys. (same with shoujo ai for girls)
So the genre you're searching for already exists...
And my suggestion would be that when you encounter one of those, just edit the genre... isn't it simple?
And, maybe... who knows... those description might be sometimes accurate? meaning there might be a guy x girl romance in the middle of Yaoi story?
EDIT: And you can always exclude Yaoi from the genre search...

What he's trying to say is that when you click on the genre for romance, yaoi comes up. Another way to get around this is to somehow allow the filtering to include genre searches. I'm not too bright but this could help out a lot in the movement to create a yaoi free atmosphere for those who want one. We Hate Yaoi.

That's why I said you can always do an advanced genre search :
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?act=genresearch
and check the green case for romance (Include Genre in my Search)
and check the red case for Yaoi (Exclude Genre from my Search)

i say the only real suggestion to be made here is to implement the genre filtering in all searches a person mades. i guess , not sure , it only filters new releases atm..
its prolly allready on manicks list to bigger this filter as they will have more personal options.
am i right, mr oh-no-not-more-suggo's manick ?

Okay here's the problem as I see it now:
Stealth and NeoFireHawk are saying that if you want to exclude yaoi and other gernes in your searches do an advanced genre search. Does this solve the problem? Yes but only one part of the problem it is also not that convenient in Rita's case. Rita seems to want to not have to deal with yaoi. Lakesurface as well. If someone filters yaoi and yuri out in their Control panel they won't see those in the releases page. However if they go to the Living Game series page for example and they want to search for more of the same genres (romance slice of life and comedy) they click on the button to search for same genres and boom a bunch of manga comes up but it includes yaoi and smut and anything that has romance as a genre(in other words nothing was excluded). So I think what they want is to not have to do an advanced genre search all the time cause they always want yaoi and yuri blocked. get it. In other words they want to be able to search simply without encountering those genres automatically. In other words the suggestion in this thread is about allowing the filtering restrictions to be gloabal to the website. Whether the admins want to add this to their list of to-dos or not is not for me to say. All I tried to do was help because everyone seemed to be missing the point of this suggestion(including me)

i indeed would like to not see any yaoi crap anywhere. like maybe if would be possible to really have a feature that can make one choose to totally and forever put big black blocks over anything that has to do with it. including romance and school life or mecha. and some lame sports like baseball or boxing as well .
my hate-list is long i know.
