i like mix only cause if you fighting another martial artist your not just restricted to just one fighting style and can switch it up and become harder to predict your moves..and tai chi is crazy
I think mix and ground is more representative of the UFC style fights, I don't quite agree with it being called a martial art when one of the objectives of the art is to keep yourself OFF the ground.
If you only learn a new style to make yourself more "unpredictable" its most likely that you're moves will be read just as fast as the other style.
Jeet Kune Do is the only thing I really see as mixed and thats only due to it including different styles to make a new one.
My preference is Shotokan and Shotokai and their ancestor schools which vary in attack styles from offensive to a more defensive form of fighting which are heavier on katas, stance, and form.
and to Modestman try aikido the locks in that are really intense.
From what I've seen the transitions can be made quite easily while using shotokan ryu.
Muay Thai anybody? I want to learn savate though

It seems to me like anyone can throw knees and elbows, but I know thats not the case. I would honestly love to learn in depth the root basics of that fighting style. 😃

I practiced Taekwondo for about 8+ years, and I wouldn't mind doing it again because it really does help. But when I'm older there'll be larger and stronger agressors, seeing as I've been 5'2" since halfway through sixth grade and I doubt I'll be growing anymore (still wishing though DX) so I've been wanting to go into Jiu jitsu because I'd honestly rather neutralize someone rather than pulverize them. =P

well, I don't mean to nitpick but a category in the poll should have been "hitting people with sticks". I may just hate having to hit the "other" option. Anyways I just started fencing this spring and I find it to be interesting. I sometimes do archery (which was not mentioned either.....) but it's more like a very casual hobby. I figure it's better for my sister if I need a weapon to really kick her ass. 😁

I practise aikido and before that ju jitsu. I switched since my ju jitsu sensei had an issue with girls learning martial arts but since I'm quite small (5ft 1) and not really into violence aikido was perfect for me since it helps calm my mind as well as train my body. We practise kendo and my dojo as well which is great fun to learn but a lot harder than I ever imagined.

I practice Body Combat since the last summer. I know it's not a martial art, but I still can kick someone. xD
Now talking serious... I practice Shotokan Karate. Although I'm still a beginner (yellow belt), I know some pretty cool moves. Some friends of mine (one black belt and the other one green belt) are teaching me some stuff. We are in the same class at school. It's pretty cool watching them while they are practicing together at school (I'm in a different dojo). ^^

I'd like to Muay Thai, personally. Either that or MMA. I did Taekwondo for around 3 years, and I didn't really like it; I wanted something less.... formal? and more hands-on.

I'd definitely choose wing chun as my ideal martial art.
I'd want to learn some XMA taekwondo as something to do though.
