I apologise if someone's already suggested this, but I couldn't find a thread with this suggestion.
I think a topic specifically for pic related 'I'm looking for' question might be pretty helpful. These individual topics usually aren't longer than two-three posts, and are sometimes repititve.

I second this. and another one could be for forgot title. those are short too. but I don't know if the users would use it that way. maybe if it was pinned....
if there is an option between "to do" and "not to do", I will always choose the latter.

I think we had one some time ago or was at least suggested. Basically would be too confusing to tell who answered what.

Qouting helps. The specific image can be quoted in the answering post.

I think this would have been a good idea if there wasn't already a section specifically for this type of stuff. There are way too many threads as it is, why change that now? .-. And since some people don't know how to use the search function they'll just continue to make more threads without actually using that one thread. Also, it is easier to find a specific thread than a post within a hundred other posts.

This would be a good idea for the Yaoi section. D; More so because of the word choices in some of the thread titles than anything. <-<; At least until we get that forum filter option.

You can pin it, like the 'Random Questions' thread. And people don't use the search function anyway, so this way all the questions will be grouped together. Also, I don't think the search is very useful if you're looking for pics.

People aren't going to look through the pinned topic one way or another to find out if the pic they're looking for has been located already. The only function this serves is consolidating all the requests into one thread; something I have no general opinion on.
To note: it is often quite irritating to quote images because then the image itself is replicated twice in the thread; for people reading, this unnecessarily increases both the length of the page and load time (not everybody is behind an incredible internet connection, remember).

Not really, it helps the one looking for it but with a large number of requests it could be lost in a sea of posts. Same goes for those answering, if there's too many posts, it'll be hard to know which ones were already answered.

Yeah, some people don't use the search function at all. <___<
And it is useful. Half of the time those pics are from recruitment pages, you can type in the group's name in the search box and the results could be of some help. That is how I have helped others.
Would pinning the topic do anything? If people can't bother to search for a specific thread I doubt they'd even glance at the pinned topics. ._. I rarely do...
Anyway, the fact still remains that it would be incredibly time consuming having to look through hundreds of post to see if someone replied to your question. There is no quoting notification, after all.

You could add a choice to the post - 'question post' and 'answer post'. When someone choses answer post, they enter the post number of the question post, linking the two together. This can be shown in the same way that quoted posts are mentioned, on the top of the post, but in both the posts.
Though I don't know squat about the coding of a webpage, so I don't know whether this can be managed or not 😛 .
@Sooky - Agreed, that does sound helpful. I was refering to the fact that the search engine can only use text. If you want to look for an image in the topics, you'll have to wade through all of the topics nonetheless.
And if they don't read through the posts in the topic, then they won't read through the topics. But those who do read through the topics will find it a tad easier to search through one topic instead of so many topics. And the 'question posts' can be highlighted, so those who want to search the topic can find them easily.

Coding new functionality to the forums is not very high up on our coding priorities. Just for the record.
