My graduating class was nothing like what they show on tv. I mean yea we had a few people that only hung out with a few other people but for the most part everybody was friendly with everyone. I actually remember this being remarked about by one of my underclassmen last year.

However this may just be because we all knew each other before highschool. Anyway I do have to say that compulsory really does suck, and that I would have loved to have met new people in highschool, but since that's all in the past can't really do anything about it.

As a political science major in college i didn't really think anyone accuratly answered this question so i thought that i probably should help solve the your confusion.

And what's that first amandment thing that always somehow connected to school? In those tv shows the students always have problem with the school about 1st amandment and always end up in court.[/quote]

The first amendment refers to the First Amendment to the constitution of the US. It gives all US citizens the Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Religion, the Right to Petition the Government for a redress of grevences (the right to sue the government), and the Right to peacefully assemble (the right to peacefully protest). As for what it has to do with schools, Americans love the right to say what they want to say even if what they want to say is offensive to others. Every so offen a student will say something that will get him into trouble with his teachers or other school officals, and the student will be punished. If someone thinks the school was out of line and the student shouldn't have gotten into trouble, then, as the litigious society we are, someone sues the school. Then it is up to the courts to decide whether or not the school went to far. All in all though, things like that are probably rarer than they seem on tv.

As a side note, the US Supreme Court just accepted to hear a case involving a high school student who held up a sign that basically said that Jesus likes marijuana. the Student was suspended from school for that.

ohh and my high school life was nothing like what they show on tv.

When I was in High School, the 'nerds' were not as degrading as it sounds because in most schools, you can't graduate unless your academic area passes. So a lot of the 'Jock' came to me for tutoring.

yes....I was a nerd....but luckily no one could tell until they saw the 96 on my report card...hehehe

This is the situation in Bulgaria ( South-Eastern Europe ).

  1. There are groups. People are different and form groups with similar people. The bonds are different: old friends, party animals, class-skippers, anime/manga groups and so on.

  2. The c00l system. Generaly each group is separate community, with own understanding for "cool". So there is no such thing as THE COOL PERSON' TM

  3. The Detension room. There is a room where you can talk with the school psycho-logist, teacher, director, parent. But this is for serious reasons only.

  4. There are no "reserved" tables, but there are part of the school, which are like a hangging place.

  5. The girls are ok .. most of them. No slavery.

  6. There are no school clubs. If you like anime/manga then you chech the local anime/manga portals and post. That is if you don't know anyone with such interests.

  7. Dancing. Everybody goes to disco. If you are alone ( no girl/boyfriend ) this is no problem. Be yourself.

  8. Foreign students are welcome. I haven't seen bad attitude.

One of the things that I want to change is to have school clubs, but Bulgaria is a poor country. Until then we go to cafes or each others' homes. -_-

heh 😛 I love the questions... the situations described seem like they're right out of Mean Girls or something 🙂 I understand that China has censoring stuff and all... so it's ok 🙂

I probably couldn't say anything about American high school, cuz I live in canada, but i imagine they're very similar

this question has nothing to do with whether China censures stuff or not......

I always though that what we see in american teen movies and other random TV shows was not because it was how things where realy in the USA but because the idiots writtings storys totally lacked imagination to come up with anything new... Well I've never been in the USA actualy so I really can't say...
But when you think about it, it's probably (and I say probably, I don't want anyone jumping on my neck for saying this), just random cliches.
And manga and anime also have their fair share of cliches, just like anything else...
