sophmore in a high school from coring ohio! ^.^

  1. No. Life Is never as interesting as it's depicted in movies or T.V. shows...or at least at my school.

  2. Kinda..I mean, generally, if your into sports alot, you spend lot of time with those people, so you end up becoming friends with those people. same goes with art club, or band, or acedemics, etc.

  3. No. There's not really a system. Some snobby peopole ACT like there's a system, but I have friends who are preppy, skater, and slightly emo, and none of them care that i'm friends with different people...it just depends i guess.

  4. ? Not too sure. Actually, it'd sort of like that at my scool O_O. I sit in the same spot day every day with my friends, the people who generally get ISI's sit together, and so do the preps. Guess the steotype aplies to my school there.

  5. XD. Ahaha. sorry. No, the mean girls don't boss you around like slaves. They just generally just spread rumors, like your pregnant or something if they don't like you. It gets a bit vicious at times... 🤢

  6. There are certain classrooms for differnt subjects. It's more convenient for teachers that way too, so they can keep there stuff for teaching all in one area.

  7. They don't really lock you in a room. You just sit there silently with a tacher in the room as punishment for doing something stupid.

  8. Kissing is a regular thing. Not generally in the classrooms, but usually in between classes in the hallways. Even though it's preached by the faculty, "No PDA!"

  9. Hmph! I WISH there was a anime or manga club at my school...Now that would be fun, but i guess it would be a regular thing at bigger schools.

  10. Actually, at my school, we treat the foreign studetns with a lot of respect and treat them well.

  11. Why's there a lot of dances? Just a social event to hang out with friends. Kind of like how people hang out with there friends at football games. We have 3 dances a year.

  12. Prom is a major experience in your high school life. It's mostly thought of as something you'll never forget. One of those things that you have to experience, even if you think you'll hate it. And everyone finds a date to prom at my school. You don't even have to be going out with the person; people sometimes just ask people as friends.

  13. The school gets sued most likely if they physically hurt a student. It's jsut something that they don't do anymore.

  14. Yes, you can sue a teacher or the school. Ex: A girl earlier this year at my school got her but smacked by a male teacher. The teacher got in major trouble, and got in even more when they found he had a myspace where he was friends with students.

  15. My youngest teacher was 25. My oldest teacher i've ever had was around 70-something. Teachers are just regular people who teach students. They don't have to be pretty to teach.

  16. Most teacher assistants just sit and do nothing. But there are Suposed to grade papers and help the teacher.

  17. My school has never held a science fair, and most likely never will. It's not a big thing at all, and it's msot liely not mandatory.

  18. You can ask anyone you want out. Just as long as it's not someone else's girlfriend.

  19. I'm friends with cheerleaders, and they are not generally treated special (unless you count being called slut or something 'special treatment') Most people where i go to school don't generally want to be a cheerleader. We have to beg people to do it. XD

Like said before by other people, most of it has to do with where you go to school and what type of people go to school there.

Unlike most people believe HS Prom. The PROM isn't really important because you have already gotten into the college you wanted by then. So most Seniors go on a trip or something.....

Um... the prom is a social event. How does college enter into it?

If you are a regular HS senior, you would know. As soon as the acceptance letter comes, Senioritis just kicks in. It will even impede people from going to parties. Of course this is based on my observation from NYC. I don't know what other places do. I can tell you this, NYC is really different.

Prom Tickets cost 250 dollars, how about you?

i went to a small private school, our prom(or formal as the school called it) only cost about $20, but they wouldnt even let ppl dance

the seniors had to come up with an event, so my class made a movie
it was a complete sundance masterpiece

let's see in HS we had 3 major dances, Homecoming, Sweethearts, and Prom, in that order (well fall, winter and spring). However Prom wasn't a senior dance, although it was only open to juniors and seniors, the peopel to be chosen for prom king and queen were pulled from the junior class just like the homecoming king and queen were chosen from the senior class. Anyways I remember people getting acceptance letters in the fall of our senior year, which was kinda weird since we hadn't even finished a semester.

My senior year the prom tickets cost about 50 dollars if I remember correctly, and as for my junior year I really do not remember. The only reason that I remember senior year, besides the fact that it was last year, was that a lot of people were complaining about it since it more than doubled and they were being forced to eat at the dance which had never happened before.

Hey there! Sophmore from California here.

Life in America? Hmmm... well, in my school, which I guess is really weird from the whole sterotypical thing, doesn't really have the nerd jock seperation. Sure, you pretty much know who is who, but it isn't like, you nerds sit here and don't talk to the jocks or stuff. It varies. I mean, there's no real popular system. We don't take prom queen seriously or running for school office that seriously either. No set law at my school.

Wanna be popular? Be yourself and don't be fake. Trust me, people can tell.

There can be a ton of drama in high school, like any high school. Especially with the girls, but that's to be expected, ne? Boys, drama, boys, and drama :3

No one eats in our cafeteria. We have a huge school so we just eat outside and little places. There is the Senior Quad which only seniors sit in and we have a place called Chinatown that mostly the Chinese sophmore and freshmen sit but sorry, cafeteria is a place no one likes to eat at. Just because. We find our own places, pretty much anywhere on campus.

There are definately mean girls but they're more sly about it. They wrap you around their finger and once they've got you they cut you off. Nothing direct. Emotional games are what they like to play. Or so it seems. Most of the boys, upperclassmen, like to make fun of the "slutty" girls, but mean girls? Hmmm... not so much in my school. More like flirty, shameless girls. Not all though, just some.

About the switching classes thing? I have no idea. But I think because in our school we choose our own classes and so many students have different classes, it's impossble to switch teachers cause it's not the subject each student shares. Or something like that....

Detention doesn't exist in our school. Weird huh? Either you're there or not which means suspension and then expulsion. No first warning in detention. Strict.

LOL Couples are always making out, just not in public. If they do kiss in public, like really out in the open, no one is afraid to say how disgusting it is. Mostly in building corners and small hallways on the side do you see couples. Never in class. I don't know a couple who has a class together in my school. That's rare here.

Yes, there is a anime club here. It's real popular. But I think it's stupid because the only thing they do is watch really old anime. Nothing special or enthusiastic. Jeez. The closest thing we have to a manga club is the sequential art club. But I know for a fact that not all schools are like this. My friend's high school has an AMAZING anime club so it's just my school.

We adore foreign students. Literally. But we only have European exchange students. And the ones from Asia live here permenantly now. We love them to death.

Dancing events are numerous here. Why? We like to party.

PROM! Geez, every girl dreams and dreads that word and date. Talk to me in a year when I go to junior prom. But seeing my junior and senior friends, it's the BIG deal. Just because.

I'm pretty sure a teacher could be sued. Never happened here, but sure.

........ No, all the pretty "young" teachers are married or dating and no affairs. Sorry, not exactly a fantasy life in high school here.

T.A. (teacher assistants) just grade homework and sometimes small quizzes. Record the grades. Take attendance and stuff like that. Nothing big but it's a committed work sometimes, especially for a teacher teaching a hard class or a big class.

Science fair. Ew. It was mandatory for a class called AC Bio. But it was pretty fun, goofing off during the competition and being really loud. Work for it during the year was excruciating but since it's only for freshmen year, it wasn't a big deal. After that, you can choose to enter it again. Not many do.

No rules for dating in my school. But one: never, ever, try and steal your friend's crush/boyfriend/girlfriend. You will be HATED LIKE NO OTHER.

Cheerleaders here vary so much. But they mostly date jocks, football jocks, yes. Some are smart, some are athletic, some are flirty, and some are just plain stupid. But it depends on the one you know.

Hopefully this helps! I know my school is a bit werid but I love it to death. GO MUSTANGS!!!

I believed you since I know that some school's proms do cost that much. I remember seeing some show, it was on the travel channel I think, that talked about prom for some schools for some reason and they did cost a s**t load of money, but then again they were like private schools in like Chicago and stuff. Anyway it's not like I would pay for that price in the first place, either my parents would or I wouldn't go.

I graduated 4 years ago from high school. My high school was a public one, but we had a lot of rich people going to it (for example, my closest friend's dad was the vice president of Intel, another friend's dad is currently Arnold Schwartzennegar's lawyer, another friend lived next to Kobe Bryant, etc.).

Our school was also about 95% White (very few minorities, and we were well aware of it). We had a few thousand students.

Quote from samsters24

Is it true that the students are divided into groups like nerds, preps or jocks thing?

Somewhat. People at my school tended to hang out with people who had similar interestes and did similar activities. Thus, people who studied more tended to hang out, whereas people who were on the sports teams created their own cliques.

I actually had two major groups of friends, one in the football team and one in the extremely nerdy end (looking back, I don't know how that came about, hehe); I could never get them all to hang out, because they just didn't understand each other.

But they didn't hate each other or anything, as is commonly depepicted in Hollywood (e.g. nerds vs. jocks). They all got along fine, even if they weren't best friends. But, there were definitely cliques (the Goths, nerds, jocks, pot heads, etc.).

Quote from samsters24

Is there really a cool popular thing system? You really not allowed to talk to cool popular kids unless you're popular too? How can you become a popular kid in US school?

Jadedkismet described this better than I could.

Quote from samsters24

Is it true that in the cafetaria there's a designated seats area for groups?

Everyone pretty much had places where they sat regularly, but it wasn't designated per se.

But my friends and I would be pretty pissed off if people moved into the area where we usually sat. We always sat outside in the grass fields, never in the cafeteria (you could go anywhere you wanted during lunch, even drive away for fast food).

Quote from samsters24

Are those mean girls who loves to make fun of people and order you around like their slave really exist in US school? ;p

No, never saw this.

Quote from samsters24

What is that detention thing? Why the teachers lock the students in some kind of room?

I had detention a few times during high school. They didn't lock the room (which would be illegal) but they watched us. Not a big deal.

Quote from samsters24

Are those kissing and smooching things always happen there? Students allowed to kiss in class too? Is it just a common thing there?

Never happened that I saw in class, but you would see people making out outside.

Quote from samsters24

Is there a manga or anime club there? What you do in there usually? Heard from some friend that lots of fun things in school's anime or manga club.

Didn't have either.

Quote from samsters24

How the students there treat foreign students? Heard local students love to intimidate and pick up fight with foreign students for no reason. Is it really that bad?

Only had one foreign exchange student from Denmark that I can recall; he was a cool kid, no one picked on him and everyone liked him.

Actually, physical fights were incredibley rare at my school. I can't recall a serious fistfight happening in front of me.

Quote from samsters24

How come there are lots of dancing events there?
What is that prom thing actually? Why people are so desperate to find a date to prom? Is it really embarassing to go alone?

Don't know why there are so many dances at high school, now that you bring it up. And I don't really like dancing; I went because it was a chance to hang out with friends and would feel left out if I didn't go.

Prom for our school was really important -- you had to have a date to get an invitation, and if you couldn't find one, no one would make fun of you but it was a big high school experience to miss. Thankfully, I got a date =). My friends and I rented a limo and tuxedos. The tickets were about $300, and it was pretty extravagent.

Quote from samsters24

Is physical punishment still used there? Because in my place there's no detention thing. If you make a mistake the teacher smack or kick you right away.

Teachers hitting the students is forbidden, and vice versa.

Quote from samsters24

Is the teacher in America really still young, beautiful & attractive? Does an affair between teachers and students always happen there? 😛

Due to my school being brand new (it was constructed only 3 years prior to my entering it), most of the teachers were young (between 25-35 years old), and many of them were attractive. I don't believe this to be the norm, however.

Quote from samsters24

What teacher assistant do actually? You get a special extra grade if you're a teacher assistant?

I was a teacher assisant to the librarian in my senior year. I was taking 6 advanced placement (college level) classes that year, and I wanted a class that would be relaxing.

Being a TA (teacher assistant) is counted as a class in my high school.

I wouldn't brag about being a teacher assistant, it's really boring.

Quote from samsters24

What is that science fair thing? Is it a mandatory thing for all students?

The last mandatory science fair I had was in elementary school. None in high school.

Quote from samsters24

And last what's that cheerleader gals all about. Is the gals in cheerleaders team are really that special and must be treated real special? They really only date the guys from football team? Wonder if Manick ever date one... 😀

I knew a few cheerleaders. I wouldn't say they were really treated special (although most were very attractive due to their rather intense training regimen, which might have lead to special treatment in its own way). They had boyfriends in all sorts of cliques, not necessarily the football players.

...ehh what? US schools are interesting?...
the students aren't really divided with walls between them. we just group with others who have similar interests.
a what, cool popular system?!? whats that? i suppose being popular is when u are above others in one particular aspect(doesnt have to be all).
there is no designated area in cafeteria for specific people at all. ehmm...ive nvr met a mean girl who treats everyone as slaves yet. ive always wondered why we move diff classrooms too! i guess its so teachers wont have to move all their stuff around since in my school, they need carts to move their stuff around....idk
detention is like punishment or time for u to reflect on what u did wrong. teachers do put students into rooms and the students either do homework or nothing at all.
omg kissing in class? that would make the teacher furious. ive only seen students kiss when they have a free period(aka no class).
yep theres an anime/manga club in my school but i dont go there so idk.
usually the foreign students are the ones that are smarter than us...haha......
i dont know why we have so many dancing events. i find it normal though b/c im used to it.
prom is like a dance in senior year. other than that, i dont really know much about since im not a senior yet.
physical punishment would result in jail or somesort
nvr heard of teacher+students affairs in my school...
a teacher assistant is like a teacher-in-training
a science fair is each student doing their own science research proj or experiment. its mandatory for some grades(eg i had to do it in 7 and 8 grade)
u can ask away and no ones gonna come beat u up 😀
cheerleader gals? in my school they're basically nonexistent...
