I've tried playing a few. But when I tried one that was Japanese (with a translator), I gave up.

The art-styles always scare me away.

I wouldn't consider myself to have played a lot, but I've completed at least five titles (~over 15 arcs).
Got myself a few more in the past month or so but haven't time time to play 'em yet. Maybe when I'm less busy 🤣
Some titles I've played:
-Ever 17 Completed
-Fate Stay/Night Completed
-Tsuki Possession Completed
-Clannad Completed
-Kanon Completed
-Bible Black (a few arcs left)
-Discipline (halfway through)

I've played a few, but since I'm on a mac mostly only the not-very-good ones are available. I've really enjoyed Katawa Shoujo, though. =) I would like to play more bishoujo games like it if Im can get my hands on a spare PC somewhere.

I am saddened no one mentioned Otome (girl) and BL games yet~ ;A;
A lot of the more popular otome girls are pretty safe to play (kinda like most shoujo manga). I think the most 'H' an otome game gets just showing the top (like many smut manga?).
Although I like following stuff about it, I have only played a bit: Animamundi (too lazy to get all the routes), Heart no Kuni no Alice (it was too tiring to play and look at the translator at the same time >.<), and few other English games (here are some English girl's game here one can try for starters).
But some day, I'd like to play more non-H male orientated games like Princess Maker, which sounds pretty fun (and I heard there was a English version available! 😁 )
still waiting for the Hakuouki and Togainu no Chi translations lol 😛

A long, long time ago.
Too much effort/time that felt wasted.

I've played:
-Wanko to Kurasou (first one I played after stumbling across it; this one is really just an excuse for H stuff with girls with dog-ears 🙄
-Fate Stay Night*
-Tsukihime and Kagetsu Tohya*
-Cross Channel*
-Tears to Tiara
-Discipline
The ones with the * next to them are ones I recommend for their storylines; each of them can stand alone without any hentai content. (In fact I'm pretty sure FSN and Cross Channel have been adapted to non-H versions)

I've heard of visual novels but...what are they?
"to the world you may be one person,
but to one person you may be the world."
-unknown
"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so" (from Hamlet, Wm. Shakespeare; Act II, scene ii)
(Even though the quote above is from Hamlet, I first saw it in a Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer on YouTube ^o^)

Now that I do know, I can safely say that I'll never play one. I'm not really into these computer-game-type things anyway.
It's not computer-game-type, it's more like a novel with illustrations. Plus from time to time you can make decisions.

I've played them but only the hentai ones. I've never even seen anything for non h VN's
played some only the one with eng trans patch or released in NA, would play more but I don't really like agth+atlas methode 🤢
"we are people because of other people"
"I am who I am because of who we all are"
I read a bit of Tsukihime, Phantom of Inferno and one I found for the Ipod (I was really bored). I don't know why they call visual novels games because they're not... Just walls of text... 😐 Visual novels are alright for passing time but I'd rather shoot stuff.

I've only read the non-hentai visual novels. I don't have much of an interest in hentai personally.
I absolutely loved Ever17 and the Umineko novels. Both Ever17 and Umineko have full english patches, so if you're sick of atlas translation I would highly recommend both of them.
I've only played Narcissu which was a REALLY long time ago.

You are like the dense main character in a shoujo manga.

I've played a lot of them (I've finished 14 currently) and I love them! Some may avoid them because there's usually H-scens but there's acually a lot of them with out any H-scens which even children can play.
Here's a great homepage for Visual novels if anyone is intrested: http://vndb.org/
Here's also a link to my favorite Visual novel which is without any H-scens, and yeah It's legally free and you can download it at the homepage: http://trueremembrance.insani.org/ (to download go to the "get" tab)
I won't bother to keep my manga list at two places at once, so... http://myanimelist.net/profile/Hogat
