I must be the only one killing this festive mood...
but the book was in truth, very boring. At least for me =.=. I just saw it as another cliche after another...perhaps if the movie is better I'd see it. Otherwise... 😔
The funny thing is, Tolkein pretty much invented those cliches in fantasy stories. Nowdays we're overdosed by them, but that's where it all started, really. It might be boring to read a story that you've already read a thousand rip-offs of, but that's not the book's fault.
I'm the other way around, I think. I read The Hobbit when I was younger and loved it. I tried to move on the The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but by then I'd already seen the movies. I've heard innumerable accounts of how superior the books are, but I still can't get into them.
I have mixed feelings about the new movie. I loved the book, true, but the story doesn't have much to excite me anymore. I know how it ends and there isn't really anything I want to see filmed, since I'm quite certain nothing can out-do the imagination of a spellbound child. I'm sure I'll be disappointed no matter how good a job they end up doing, since the odds of them recapturing that magic are so slim.

I see
it was Galadriel
WHY is she going to be in it
that makes even less sense than if gandalf had some relationship with a random elf woman
[not 100% sure but i think her land/forrest/w/e is pretty much in the opposite direction from elronds]
now it makes sense that there will be more money i mean movies
load the story with fillers
and we can cram out 2 movies and make 2times the amount of GOLD
thank god for fillers...or atleast the god of money

i read the book 15-16 years ago
cant say i remember it too well
[i did see the animated bilbo film earlier this year...but it was kind of dissapoiting]that can explain why i dont remember
any elf woman that is interested in gandalfand i dont remember the dwarfs actually do anything but put themselfes in danger and being greedy
[very greedy and lookkind of...like... YEWS...well tolkien was a product of his time]so why are they using weapons
or did they use weapons...i cant rememberand there was a dwarf in that trailer who looked just like Odo from ds9
was it rene 😕SINGING
omg
wtf are they thinking
i hope they dont ruin the movieS by putting in too many of the songs
they are mostly awful from what i remember
and its not very fun to watch 13 fat dwarfs sing
What is the point of showing off just how little you remember from reading the novel? 😕
Furthermore, the songs in Tolkien's writings were brilliant, so speak for yourself.

You can say that The Hobbit is a prequel to The Lord of the Rings. From what you can see in the trailers, Bilbo Baggins gets entangled in an adventure... and along the way he finds a certain ring which is what causes the ruckus in The Lord of the Rings.
imp4ever, I was the same as you. I read The Hobbit, and I thought that it was insanely awesome (especially the riddles!!). Then my cousin dragged me into watching The Lord of the Rings since she thought that Orlando Bloom was hot. Then I bought the trilogy after watching the first installment... and I did finish it... but I wanted to take my finger, poke it into my eye, and twirl it around... too many characters... the storyline dragged... I don't know why but I really enjoyed reading The Hobbit whereas I just wanted The Lord of the Rings to be over with.

i never liked lotr i always thought that the main characters were too human for such an epic fantasy, and i think the hobbit will follow the same formula, but i will still watch it since the artistic design looks beautiful

I saw the trailer and it looks like the movie will be a good adaptation. But I wouldn't say I am all that excited, because in the end the story of the Ring is not all that good compared to a lot of other stuff IMO. The characters being boring and so on.

I'm excited 🙂 I don't like books being made into movies that much, but The Lord of The Rings was very good, so I'm sure The Hobbit will be too. And it's one of the first books I've read, I was six years old or so, and I've loved it since then. Also, Martin Freeman is a very good actor, he's a fantastic Bilbo 🙂 But we have to wait a whole year to see it...

I got the same felling (Except I'm thinking of rereading and then re-watching), i can't wait for the movie.

I never really got into the trilogy, I think the movies and books where too long for me, but I enjoyed them enough to be kind of looking forward to this. Also, I'm in love with Ian Mckellen, so I probably would've been super happy about this for that fact alone. ^.^
