was wondering if anyone had any professional level knowledge as to how to dye their hair white?
particularly if the individual in question has thick jet black hair to begin with?

i tried once to progress in stages to platinum blond, but it went horribly horribly wrong and turned auburn orange - i was told that the whole process would take about 6 months, but there's got to be a quicker way right?

(bleaching doesn't seem to work either, as it just really damages the hair and heavy conditioning is needed) 😕

there is this thing at the beauty supply outlet for bleaching hair but its called a lightener (i could be wrong though) manic panic also has permanent white dye called snow. i heard it works really well. you have to bleach your hair for it though but buy professional products because they work better.

you have to bleach it many times in order to get a lime tone, then you can use like manic panic ''white snow'' and this ink will turn it completely white, their products are soft but you have to use treatments anyways

There are special cosmetics that remove colour from hair, you apply them just like hair dye. Unfortunately, I have no idea what they are called in English 🙁 My friend used it when she wanted to dye her black hair green.

The first month of having that color my hair was pretty messed up. After lots of treatment it became healthier~ Back then I also had black hair. It looked quite cool.
I used crème developer 60 and white bleaching powder. It only took 3 rounds to get platinum blond. After that, I used silver semi-permanent dye. Rinsed, and then applied the white dye with a little bit of crème developer.
Dunno if you'd find crème developer 60, if not vol 40 also works. But it'll take more rounds to get a platinum blond.

I have a few questions though:
@Edible Glitter - how long did it take you to do the three separate treatments for your bangs, and then the final silver dye? and how long should I wait in between each treatment? is it until hair feels healthier again or a set time? ("Panteen-ProV" seemed to be a good shampoo to use to repair damage, but would u suggest other product?)

or@ ne1 w/ experience in general - same questions as above 😛

@ Hanae - is using a lightener much different from using bleaching powder?

try dying your hair pink...yes!pink! my friend streaked her hair pink and 2 weeks later the streaks were white

I'm naturally blond, so I never bleached my hair to get blond, but rather to change from say, orange, or red, or blue, or green, so I didn't really trying to go white-blond. Therefore I might be wrong on some parts.

But from my experience, you should bleach it with the highest volume (like 40+, flashlightning) you can find. And you'll probably have to do it more than once. I usually did multiple bleachings within a day or two of each other (But I didn't really give a shit about having undamaged hair.) After that, you find a toner, I believe the purple/blue toner is for hair that comes out yellow/orange (look on the color wheel for a shade complementary to your hair color after you've bleached it.) You might have to use the toner more than once as well. You probably shouldn't wait long to use the toner after it has been bleached.

Try using a color stripper before the toner though. (Which is what I think Hanae is talking about) I don't know if it matters if you use it after or before bleaching, I always did it before. But it'll help neutralize any previous dye jobs if you've dyed before. It might help with any natural reds you have in your hair also, though I'm not sure... I've never met a person who has used stripper on un-dyed hair.

To be honest, I wouldn't recommend doing anything to your hair. I used to bleach and dye my hair a lot. It got so damaged I just started shaving it. It is nice having hair that isn't being destroyed.

If I were you I would just find a nice hairdresser who would explain everything to me 🙂 Or find a forum about hair styling and ask there.

My absolute best advice, is that if you are going lighter always always always go to a professional. Always. If you mess up it can get ugly.

If you are going darker you have more of a leeway but I think it's only three-four shades darker.

As well a professional will be able to choose a direction that will cause your hair the least amount of damage, as well as recommend some product to help protect you hair.

Wow, I didn't know so many people wanted to have while hair. I would give you mine. Being 20 and already going white is not a pleasing experience. lol

I know there is something called Platinum that can be used to turn your hair white, but I don't know if you can get it out of a saloon.

If your hair is black like mine, don't even try it! Cost a lot, and you will never really have your white hair. 😢 So sad. =/ Most like a Malfoy from Harry Potter.

But if you have a cleaner hair, I suggest you to find a hair stylist, or a good haircutter (don't know the name in english! hahaha sorry! x3).

I dyed blue once, perfect, have a nice effect and don't attack the hair.

AH! You will have to let your hair grow a lil' cuz the products may burn your skin. So, you dye blond, cut, then you dye it blue/orange/whatever.
