This week's poll was suggested by Renzonokuken. What kind of body would you choose if you had a choice during a reincarnation or transmigration scenario? Such a popular genre nowadays... (Regression is back in your own body in the past, which is why I left that out)

You can submit poll ideas here: https://www.mangaupdates.com/topic/kilkdnn/site-manga-poll-suggestions

Previous Poll Results:

Question: Preferred type of protagonist?

Choices:

  • Hero - votes: 477 (27.1%)
  • Heroine - votes: 355 (20.2%)
  • Villain - votes: 481 (27.3%)
  • Villainess - votes: 446 (25.4%)

There were 1759 total votes. The poll ended: August 23, 2025

This is probably our most even poll between 4 options

Depends entirely on further information.

Do I get to choose what sort of world I'm getting isekai'd to? Do I at least know a decent amount about it, especially what tags the world has attached to it and what genre of manga it would be?

If it's going to be one of those yuri type series where girls always win and are the strongest, and generally a slice of life sort of experience then I'd be pretty stupid to not pick all female to go along with it.

Otherwise, all male.

That's a good point, although my brain kind of went in the other direction.

A lot of isekais (I'd even say most) are set in a sort of fantasy Europe setting, and it can vary how "historical" the people act and what their attitudes towards women are.

It would suck big time to be reborn as/transmigrated into a girl living in a patriarchal society where women have no choice about who they marry, they're just the property of their fathers/husbands, and you're expected to marry the man your father tells you to and start popping out heirs for him.

Even if you go with the "no genitals" option, it's possible that because you're incapable of being used for your ascribed "purpose" as a woman, you'd either be mistreated or disposed of.

And if it's reincarnation into the real world instead of a fantasy world, it depends on where and when you're reincarnated. For much of history and even in a lot of places today, again being a woman means being expected to be a subservient baby maker, which really doesn't appeal to me.

And up until relatively recently, it was common for babies born with ambiguous genitalia to have the doctors just pick a sex and surgically alter them to make them appear "normal", so even ignoring possible discrimination you could face for being born anything but pure male or pure female, if you were born at the wrong time, you could still end up having surgery performed on you against your will as a baby to "fix" you.

All that being said, assuming I do get to have some choice in where I'm reborn, I'd be all for a female form without genitals. No worries about periods, and hopefully I'm some kind of cliche OP fantasy creature that can just choose to look human at will so I can live how I want instead of worrying about having to strictly conform to whatever the current state of human society is.

This question is so strange to me. It basically asks if you are transgender or nonbinary and what is your ideal appearance if so, but its also like so vague like what is "pure female form and body". Do I no longer have chin and back hair, if I pick "pure female form and body"? Cos almost all the woman in my family have chin hair, sideburns and furry backs. I don't think that's the transmigrated imagining of "pure female form". Also like what story or setting am I transmigrating or recarnating into?

I think a better question might be" if you reincarnated/transmigrated into a world where you could choose your sex and gender on the caveat that what ever sex and gender chosen would be an oppressed class which would it be?" (and then instead of pure you just say female appearance with female genitals and etc). You could change oppressed class with other setting details like glorified class, or etc too.

I fail to see how/why any cisgender or transsexual person, wouldn't chose the one of the two first options, that conforms with their gender.

How/why would anyone, who isn't a (non-transsexual) transgender person, want to choose any of the five latter options?
How would they (and the one of the first two, that doesn't match their gender), possibly be options, for anyone who is cis or transsexual?

I am male myself... But if i reincarnated and had a choice would prefer to be a female... I am not trans though... Just have this preference, I even usually play female characters in RPGs... (And i am bisexual so wouldn't mind dating a guy if that is how plot went, though GL doesn't sound too bad either)

I mean if anything it is curiosity... I already lived as male for decades, I would want to try something different... And other 4 different options are just less appealing to me, especially no genital ones seem oof...

Female. Nothing to do with my current sexuality. I don't see why I would say no to a chance to experience what's about the only opposite side that's impossible to recreate in real life.

Sexuality? No one said anything about sexuality, and sexuality has absolutely nothing to do with the issue, in any way, shape, or form.

'Pure female form and body'. I can't imagine wanting to live as a man. I guess if it were the world of Liveship Traders or The Poppy War or something I might consider it just due to the absolute misery of women in those worlds. I can't say that I've encountered anything so grim in manga, but that could just be what I'm reading.

I know what it's like to be a guy, so assuming it's one of the common victorian, renaissance, medieval and Roman hodgepodge settings where women are generally just as physically capable as men, and periods don't seem to exist for reasons that are never explained, I'd probably go female to try something different. If the setting is more harsh and I'd have no good way to defend myself or get out of a bad relationship as a woman, I'd go male.

Oh, there's manga where it's really grim for women ...but those works are very much a minority.
Generally people like to write/read works, where things are a lot more equal. Generally more equal than in the real world. (in some cases subtly, in some cases quite significantly)

That said, the poll was about reincarnation/transmigration. Not reincarnation/transmigration into a manga world.

But yeah, wanting to avoid terrible sexism, is pretty much the only reason I could understand, for choosing a gender that differs from ones own.

That really depends on the world I'm thrown into. If that world has ABSOLUTE and COMPLETE equality for the sexes (and maybe both can have babies or, even better, there isn't any need for giving birth), I'm not sure what to choose. I don't want to be a man, but it'd be interesting to try and live as the opposite sex. Really, not sure though. It really totally depends on the world.

If there's ANY kind of inequality, no matter how tiny, I'd want be the gender that has more rights. No doubt about that.

If I don't know anything about the world beforehand (for instance, often the protagonist reads a book they later transmigrate into, so they already know the world), then I'd choose male. Either pure or without genitals. Simply because in most worlds, even in fantasy worlds, males have more rights and aren't treated as property and baby factories. So chances are much higher that I'd have a better life as a male.

As shitty and absolutely unfair as that is.
