I've just been reading 12 Beast, and was wondering if there are any other good series centered on a hero who is always second best, trapped in someone else's shadow. Especially if it's a guy who's being constantly one-upped by a bastard and the one-upmanship extends to the area of romance. For example, in 12 Beast, Eita's brother is constantly superior in everything. He conquers literally every girl Eita has ever found attractive, somehow leaves them worshiping him, and brags to Eita about how great they are in bed. He even at one point encourages his brother to excel in an area in order to win the heart of a girl, only for Eita to find out that the guy had already mastered this area and used this mastery to seduce said girl.

My one big request is that either the hero manages to eventually beat his "superior" and begins to turn things in the reverse, with people talking of the "superior" as being not quite to the hero's level, or the hero manages to get at least one girl who had admired this superior to change her mind and choose him. Also, I strongly prefer that the hero be male.
