Fillers

Keep in mind that this isn't just limited to anime and manga. It's also for fillers in live action TV, movies, novels, video games, webcomics, etc.
For me, it depends. Sometimes filler is entertaining and you don't realize it's filler until you really think about it (Like Quidditch matches in Harry Potter) and sometimes filler is real horrible (Like the Rurouni Kenshin filler that was so bad that the anime was canceled because of it).

Depends...sometimes they're amusing "side story" type things that are fun & may reveal more about various characters, but sometimes they're just draggy & pointless (I'm thinking mainly of manga here as I don't watch much anime or tv).
I've seen a few dramas - mostly Korean - that seem to go well up to a certain point & then go, "oh crap, we still have to fill up 7-10 more episodes before the happy ending, let's introduce a new love rival/potentially terminal illness/crisis in the family business/stupid misunderstanding/etc.". 🤢

I rarely read or watch something that I know has fillers.
To me, it is an insult. A filler is something that takes up time and space, so the story can be streched out longer. It may seem harsh, but I can't respect the work of anyone who does this.
Everything that's in your story should be a part of it, and anything extra is a waste of time and space. If I ever wrote something, it would be because I have something to tell, and I'd never waste the time of my audience.
That said, they can still be entertaining, like extra fight scenes in movies that don't advance the plot, but are exciting. It's just that, when you add those and people recognize what they are, you are setting the tone for your whole movie as kind of cheap. But like I said, cheap doesn't mean boring.
Also about what you said loosecannon, I don't think the quidditch games in Happy Potter are fillers. Harry plays quidditch, it's something he has a talent for, and it's part of the story, so why shouldn't we see it?
I hate them.
I don't read or watch any
useless extra that doesn't belong there.

I'm not saying we shouldn't see it. I'm saying it's filler because those Quidditch matches had no bearing on the plot whatsoever. In the beginning, the Quidditch matches were introduced because we were learning about the wizard world along with Harry. As time went on, it became less and less important because of the plot with Voldemort becoming more important. If you take it out, it wouldn't alter the plot because Quidditch is just something to show that the wizard world has sports like our world. It's like if one alien came to Earth to kill another alien and on the way, it sees people playing basketball and decides to start playing with them. Sure, it shows the alien learning a bit about this world, and yeah it's entertaining to see the alien pick up and play basketball with humans, but it doesn't advance the plot about it trying to find and kill the other alien.

It depends on how bad they are.
And how long they run for.
A few episodes here and there are ok, even better if its an action show and they use the fillers to show comedy, but when it runs for whole arcs...
🤢

I dunno, to me the games were about Harry finding something he was good at was a part of him adapting into the wizarding world, and having another connection to his father who he never really knew well, since he also played.
If the games were taken out it would have a bad effect on the story as a whole, for me.
I guess part of it is how it feels to you. I think the games are necessary in the books if Harry is a quidditch player, and so they aren't fillers. If you think they aren't redeeming enough to be considered a true part of the story, then they are fillers for you. 😐 It's hard to decide upon what's really a filler and what isn't when it comes down to personal interpretation.

Guess I worded it incorrectly. I don't think that Quidditch itself is filler, I thought that the matches as the story went on were filler. Because the focus was more on other events and characters and not just Harry. The Quidditch matches became less and less important to the story because by then Harry had already established how well he was at it and he already started to learn more about his father. I think J.K. Rowling thought the same way because if you notice, the frequency of the Quidditch matches started to diminish as it went on.

sometimes i like fillers,... i get scared of what can happen in the story xD so watching or reading fillers is not a bad thing
but there is a moment when its already 'too much"
so it really depends.. there r good fillers , and the not so good crappy fillers 🤢

If they stretch out like for a whole season like in Bleach or Naruto then no. If it's just one or two episodes of random crap then that's ok but other than that, I dislike watching fillers. I skipped all the fillers just to get to Shippuden 🙂

Typically I like fillers, so long as they are entertaining and suit the story. Simply because I like seeing more of the characters and world that has attracted my interest.

I confess to that one. Much as I love Naruto, those fillers were just going overboard with no real point to them.
Sometimes they are ok, but i'm talking out of anime context. I dropped Naruto because there were so many pointless fillers that took too long and I couldn't be bothered to waste my time.
If you had asked within anime context, I would have said outright no.
There are indeed some cases were a little break from the main plotline are refreshing, but this is rarely the case.
