I'm looking for an shounen series that between about 4-10 tanks long (it can be ongoing) and not too generic. I've been searching for about a month for something that doesn't annoy or bore that crap outta me halfway through. I've been coming to baka-updates since to early day of gotlurk and before DMCA and manga readers started so I've read just about all the popular series like Dragonball, Naruto, Bleach, etc. I'm in my mid-twenties now and find each of those series abnormally irritating. Does anyone have any suggestions? Its doesn't have to be a manga, I like reading light novels too. It just has to shounen, I've had a bit of trouble transitioning to seinen, and I actively avoid manwha do to the fact that just about everyone I've read except maybe two has a tendency to red coat most of the main characters.

Ginen Shounen is a great shounen romance.

Matataka is in love with his best friend Mirai. He's a photographer and begins to see shots of the future where she's with another guy and his impending death.

Wow, it sounds like you've read an awful lot of manga but there are less than a dozen titles on your public "complete" list.

Ah well, I was hoping to avoid wasting time recommending things you'd already read, but I guess I'll just have to sally forth and see how it goes......given those parameters, I'd suggest Aku no Hana, Bullet Armors, Choku!, Crimson-Shell, Franken Fran, Himawari Youchien Monogatari Aiko Desho!, Satougashi no Dangan wa Uchinukenai, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso and Stop!! Hibari-kun!.

I've already read Ginen Shounen, and i'm trying to avoid timid MCs. (Sorry, I didn't mention that because I felt the original post was getting a bit long.) They take the longest to develop and every step of the way is more bothersome than enjoyable. Plus after reading Parallel like 100 times, it's kinda set an awkward bar for shonen for me. I read Josei for romance. I'm looking for more action/adventure-ish types. I'm looking to avoid MCs that lack basically common sense with no hopes of wising up like Goku or Luffy, but simply ignorant MCs like Aladdin from Magi are fine. Also, if its a battle series I would like if it didn't degrade to power ups instead of strategy. Although, I think I get to in-detail with the guidelines. 😐

Never liked updating the thing. I was like "cool" when they first created it but I had already read so many series I was like "screw it" after I had updated the first few series lol. Plus alot of those series I ended up finishing in the raws because there were no translators at the time. Only Negima and History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi every gain enough popularity to encourage people to continue translating before I had finished the series. On an old hard drive I have laying around here somewhere I have a little over 60GBs of different series collected from IRC and a few Japanese BBS boards and P2P apps. A few series I don't think you can find anymore.

Going to give this a shot 'cause I know how you feel, though geared more towards the shoujo genre than the shounen one. Though I was lucky enough to be able to make a transition/expand my taste to all demographics. So let's hope you haven't read any of these:

Ongoing:

Helck (Really good stuff, sitting at 8 volumes. Mangaka is a fairly deft hand at keeping balance of comedy and darker themes, though the manga has definitely gotten more serious.)

Shoukoku no Altair (You may have heard/read this one and it's sitting at 17 volumes, but I'm going to suggest it anyway because of beautifully drawn it is.)

And wow, I got nothing else, I probably need to start one of these threads myself looking for shounen.

Seconding Helck and Franken Fran (and Shoukoku no Altair, if you're OK with that volume count).

And...
7th Garden
Amagoi
Birdmen
Chichi Kogusa*
Epic of Gilgamesh
Gendai Majo Zukan*
Hitoribocchi no Chikyuu Shinryaku (will probably end at 12/13 volumes, but really, really good)
Kakegurui
Kyokou Suiri
Mahou Tsukai no Yome*
Majo no Shinzou*
Samon the Summoner*
Sumikko no Sora-san*
Tenkuu Shinpan (10 volumes and ongoing)
Torikago no Tsugai*
Ubume no Natsu*
Urami Koi, Koi, Urami Koi.
Zetsuen no Tempest

Since you didn't specify a preferred genre, I just chose ones I particularly enjoyed. The asterisks indicate the manga which are not explicitly action.
