I'm not interested in run-of-the-mill hardworking characters like Naruto. Yes, Naruto worked hard when it was time to learn a new jutsu - but he didn't live and breathe it like Rock Lee and Gai. Most shounen protagonists, in battle and sports manga, are hardworking. However, even in those manga, there tends to be a secondary character that is more hardworking than the main character.

Vegeta is a great example. Granted, other DB characters push themselves, but Vegeta clearly lived to improve. Goku, too - but Vegeta was willing to go to any extreme necessary. 450x's earth gravity when Goku did 100x's was ridiculous - but he was willing to endure it.

Baki worked hard, but his brother Jack was ultra hardworking.

Gon worked hard, but Netero did 10k punches a day.

I think you guys get my point.

Not a manga but maybe check Mother of Learning? It's a web fiction, with a protagonist stuck in what seems to be a time loop. Very quickly he takes advantage of it to train his magic, which is subpar at the start. Part of it is, notably, to try and satisfy a very demanding teacher who comes up with extremely difficult tests of basic magic manipulation.

I think he's the most hard-working character in the setting.
