Television advertisements

So I was watching television today, and it occurred to me that I've only once watched an advertisement and wanted the product (a toy when I was a kid). I may just not be the target audience for the usual stuff, but I can't help but wonder how many people actually pay attention to those endless car and restaurant ads rather than getting their information via word of mouth/online. How much do advertisements influence you?

i think you are fooling your self if you think you are imune to advertisements
of course you are not going to go out and buy a new expensive car just bcoz you saw the CM on tv
...well some are...that are in need of a new car and can afford ot buy a new car at full price
but...or take out a loan or whatever
but... it is the small things
the constant bombardments
no one would like 30 rock if tv and paid of critcs did not insist that it was the best tv show ever
no one would like how i met your mother for the exact same reasons
and when it comes to products
you most likely drink some form of advertised shit...not bcoz it taste better than orange juice from some small noname company
but bcoz ur braindwashed to do so
and what makes you think getting the info from word of mouth or internet is better
where do you think those ppl got the info from
those ROLEX MON those CLOCKS omg omg omg
but...hey wait a minute
my shitty 10year old mobile can show me time so
NO THANKS
i am of course making this a little to simple here
but
you are affected by CM
do not think otherwise
