I'm sure there are a bunch of dickheads in the world who'd do it if given the chance, but I'm not greedy enough to take someone's life willingly. Not even for 10 grand.

Not even if the situation is fake.

Not even if the people aren't real.

(Yes, I have major problems.)

I wouldn't press the button, but if it were at all possible, I'd like to be... the person that offers the button for other people to press? I dunno, I just have this image in my head of a me presenting someone with this opportunity, and when this person actually presses the button, I'd instantly keel over and fake my death - just for the lulz.

Then, right at the pinnacle of the person's panic, I'd get up, dust myself off and say, "Juuuuuuuuuuuust kidding! Oh ho, ho, sir! I really had you going, eh? No need to worry, I'm A-O-K! Now! Let's see who's the unlucky one to die...

picks one

"Got it! So... ... ...EH!? Um... Sir? W-what was your name again...?"

Ohhhhh, I'd just keep going with the gag till it wasn't even funny. Or better yet:

"Congrats, sir! The money is already deposited in your account!"

Turns on le fake Newscast "BREAKING NEWS! A 747 pilot spontaneously dies in mid-flight; his aircraft tragically lands on XXXXXXX Elementary, killing 1000 children."

"Oh, dear... Sir, didn't you tell me that's where your kids go to school?? Weeelp, that's a reeeeal shame. Ohhh well! Enjoy your muuuuuuuunny!!

The random person could be the one I love, which isn't worth 10 grand or even a trillion grand. And anyway even if I didn't like anyone I still wouldn't push the button. Pain over a loved one's death isn't worth anything.

No, I wouldn't press it. I couldn't live with knowing that I caused someone's death, especially for something like money. That person most likely has loved ones, dreams, and hopes. I couldn't take that away.

My wallet screams yes, my brain says eh and my heart says don't do it. Then my brain took a look at my debt and slapped my heart into agreement. Money makes the world go round, ethics be damned.

But actually facing the one you are killing makes a whole lot of difference.

Voted "No" for the morally obvious reason

... but even with morals aside, I'd still say no.

An average human life is worth at least $50,000.
So why randomly off someone for ≤1/5 of that?

Have you ever bought from walmart? the dollar store? People have died over a lot less making a lot less just so we can buy things cheaper.

I think it's safe to say that the choice they had and the ones they wish they had are very different.

I think most people here are--rightfully so--treating this moral dilemma as inconsequential because it isn't possible, hence the majority "yes" answers. However, I think the majority of those "yes" answers are people just pretending to be cool heartless badasses for the sake of it, without seriously answering the question. I don't blame them for not taking it seriously, but as I am a humanist, I believe that majority would actually say "no" if this were possible.

As for myself, $10,000 wouldn't even be enough to make me think about it. It's not even that much money. Add 3-5 zeros to that, and maybe I'd think about it.

But no, in all honesty, I wouldn't given this were a possible situation. I would imagine the person I might kill, and how if I were in their shoes I would hope my life was worth more than 10 grand. And I'd hope that anyone else that could be given the offer would think of me, too. Maybe I'm just more attached to life than others, and money just isn't that important to me (and it's not like I'm super rich and privileged as I say this--I've lived at the near poverty level for the majority of my life, and have good deal of debt).

Add this little Death Note idea to dilemma -- if the person you killed for 10 grand was a murderer, would you press the button?

You'd get a lot more genuine "yes" answers.

Ten thousand is not nearly enough. No price can be put on a human life! How cruel to think so!

...

But maybe for a million. 😛

@Saons
Very true. I can see you have wisdom. 😃

@Badkarma
I would take that job. I'm such an S. 😛

Warn: Banned

I'm a bit surprised that no one has brought up that there are over 7 billion people in the world.

In other news: there where explosions in Boston today

i wont press the button because i just know that karma is a bitch and the random person would be ME. or even worse, a mangaka that i like where i follow his manga religiously, would die and now i don't know who will ended up with who.

now, even if the person is a murderer, i still have to know how do the murder come about. maybe he murder to avenge the rape of his child, maybe he murder for national security, maybe he murder for his gods, maybe he murder for a quick 10 grand. haha, if this is played out, anyone who press the button is a murderer, and he will be the next target of the button.

but well, i will do it for free to push the button on child rapist. there is no excuse for that, even if you are brought up to believe virgins cure aids or it's okay in your religion since your prophet married a 9 year old girl.
