Going to Japan!!!

So I'm studying abroad in Kasukabe City (about an hour north of Tokyo) and I'm trying to put together an itinerary of stuff to do while in Japan 😀
So far I only have specifically the Studio Ghibli Museum and Tokyo Tower and of course general stuff like looking some host/hostess/maid cafes and going to Harajuku, Roppongi Hills, Shibuya, Akihabara, etc. (We are going to Nikko though and visiting the shrine there)
However, can anyone recommend specific places/restaurants/stores to go to or things to see? It doesn't have to just be in Tokyo, but anywhere around Kasukabe is awesome (especially places IN Kasukabe 😀 )
Arigatou gozaimasu!
Erm... shrines? I dunno any specific ones though... :S

Just a heads up Studio Ghibli doesn't allow you to take pictures. Only outside. You should go to Mandarake! You can find great deals. There is one in Shibuya and Akihabara. Go here http://www.mandarake.co.jp/en/shop/ they'll give you directions. HMV is a nice music store, hard to miss in Shibuya. Are you going to Harajuku cause you should? See the shrine that's right out of the train station. You'll find a great ice cream machine inside the gift shop. You should definitely go to a 100 Yen shop, great stuff! I got a "What do you like? I like strawberry cake" cake tray. Oh and try not to go on a train during rush hour, you may die. Hobby shops are super fun. You should visit the Great Buddha and a bamboo garden, they're in the same town. Outside of the Buddha area is a ice cream shop that has great watermelon ice cream
Go to a cat cafe.

Trust me, it's a shame to go to Nikko and only look at shrines. That area is amazingly beautiful- I go up there for hiking all the time. I highly recommend that, depending on the season, you check out some of its more remote corners.
I'm not a huge fan of the touristy stuff, but I still rather like Meiji shrine... I often pick up a book from the kinokuniya in Yoyogi and spend the afternoon reading it in the open area.
I haven't actually been out to Kasukabe (I live less than a kilometer from Tokyo's city limits), but I'm fairly certain that if you're out in eastern Saitama, that you'll be close to a number of interesting mountains, which are often coupled with local shrines and the like.
