Have you tried Oishii Kankei? Even though at first the heroine is quite weak, I liked watching her grow over the course of the series. I found it more mature than a lot of romances out there, which was really nice. Mm, I read it before Real Clothes, and the latter actually reminded me of Oishii Kankei in terms of style and story.

Ares I am VERY tentative about this recommendation...some people love it like I do or they hate its guts...so give it a try maybe? This manhwa has 3 protagonists though their screen time isn't exactly equal - Ares, Mikael/Michael, Baroona/Baruna. The "female lead" isn't my favorite but after her first main appearance she doesn't show up that often (extremely sheltered child).
Magician (KIM Sarae) There is character growth - Enzu becomes more and more competent - and I love Iremi but hate her at times.

Btooom! This would fit the war bill more but it is not. A game is brought to real life. Players use different type of bombs to take out the enemy hence the sorta war like strategizing. Lead female is a bit reliant but she gets things done
