Basically, Mahou Sensei Negima was the original. It follows the manga's plot for a while but then differs. The art (animation) isn't great but it's funny at times. Negima!? is a 're-telling'. It uses the same characters but the plot and technicalities are different. The art (animation) is a lot better, but if you're a fan, both series are worth watching. Though the manga is the best 😉

Negima?! is directed by the Pani Poni Dash people so it has a lot of really random and weird gags added into it.
If you go for the original Negima, see if you can find DVD-ripped versions because I hear graphically they fixed it up considerably after fans and Akamatsu complained.

Negima neo is still worth a look too (short as it is), different from both animes.

Negima!? and Negima Neo are the same thing. (For anime-manga relationship purposes)

But as tradition goes, the anime misses out half the manga. I might be wrong, but i was refering to the opening chapter of neo when I said it differs. (its a while since i saw the anime)

Just my 2¢ 😛

The first Mahou Sensei Negima! was pretty good for the first 3/4 of the series. The artworks wasn't the best, and there were some changes to the storyline which were generally for the worse, but overall it wasn't a *bad *adaptation. Where it really fell down was the poorly concived, anime-only ending. It was *really *bad.

The second Negima!? started out very promising. Great OP, very good artwork and an original take on the story. It quickly disintegrated however, due to repetitious and increasingly un-funny "gags" and an almost total lack of character development or story. Truly dissapointing as it started out looking so promising. 😔

So, there are IMO serious problems with both series, and the manga is definitely far superior to either one. They are both probably worth a watch, and your opinion on which is better will depend on your personal tastes, but I would recommend watching the anime before the manga as they definitely suffer in comparison.

I was supprised when they decided to kill off asuna, I thought it was a really great ending to the anime and was impressed that the creators had the balls to do that, but then they had to ruin it by bringing her back, in the lamest possible way too. If they had left her dead and then had the 'emo' episode after where everyone was upset, i think it would have been a nice dramatic ending without stepping over the line or being too corny.

I've started to not mind when the anime splits apart from the manga to reach an end because the manga is still ongoing and has no sign of stopping, I just hate it when they fill it with overdramatic and cheesy content.

I agree there completely. Though the way they cut the OP could have been better, (i.e what they did to the second OP). The ending theme was great though xD

It would have also totally "killed" any chance of a second season, though (which does not look like it will ever happen, but I would think deliberatly destroying that chance would have been a bad idea)

On general principals I *hate *killing and then resurrecting characters. I feel like the writers are just jerking me around. It's like they could not think of any other way to involk an emotional response in the viewer that killing off a well liked character, and then not accepting the consequenses and just bringning them back. It's just a cheap trick. >:-(
