Leap year

I was asked by a friend today, an interesting question. When my two year college course is over would I take a leap year? I replied and said "No I would prefer to stay in studying and go straight to university". She pointed out "That it would take another few years; not to mention the costs of paying universities fees". She continued to argue the point and said "The accumulated time you have spent in learning overall, you could have gone traveling like I did; get a decent job and learn considerable amount of life skills". I said "Getting a degree would secure the fact that I will get a decent job; if anything, better then a person without a degree".
She had said in response "Some graphic designers just needed the experience and portfolio and degree isn't compulsory". Which I found out can be possible according to my tutor anyways. She also pointed out "That it is better to go to university later, when you’re older and settled, compared to still being young and thinking about paying for bills, and that the university loans and so forth could make things considerably harder".
So my question is for you. What do you think about leap years?
Do you agree with my friend?
Would you take a leap year if you had the chance?
Your from the order? I've never seen you before.

Honestly, for graphic design I would suggest just heading into the work force.
College is what is going to teach you what you need to know to get a job.
Going to University for the arts is kind of a waste of money. College is better for those kinds of things.
When going through a resume people are more interested in your portfolio and what you have done then your actual education although it plays a part.
