I remember reading years ago this cute shoujo featuring two girls who are bffs: one is a shy introvert, other was a beauty and popular but wouldn't date until her bff got a boyfriend first! There was the guy who (here I don't remember well) either wanted to help his friend (call him X) to date the beauty girl and so tried to befriend the the shy girl but actually they started to genuinely like each other? Whereas the beauty was not so docile and had a tough character in fact! She was wary of boys but boy X is actually a nice, good boy so maybe there would be romance between them, who knows

I think that is Tomodachi no Hanashi. It's been a while since I read it though.
