This week's poll was suggested by juliarox214. Since you started reading manga (or manhua/manhwa), what's the longest break you've taken where you didn't read anything? Can you go on without this hobby?

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: You're very talented at 1 skill or subject, but you don't like it. You're also terrible at another, but you're very passionate about it. If you had only enough time to pursue 1, which would you choose?
Choices:
The one I'm very good at but don't enjoy - votes: 729 (37.4%)
The one I'm very bad at but enjoy - votes: 1222 (62.6%)
There were 1951 total votes.
The poll ended: September 7th, 2024 10:43am PDT

Most of us would choose happiness over other things. Of course we could complicate this more if we had to attach money values. People naturally interpret this with jobs

I'm not really sure with the poll.. Taking a break from reading manga as in "all manga"? Or taking a break from reading a few manga titles?

I answered a few months, but from reading a few manga titles.. When the plot gets a little boring, or when I was caught up with work that I couldn't follow the updates. Frieren, Akagami no Shirayukihime, and Ancient Magus Bride are some of them.

In some cases, for a quite long running series, I took a break for years already. I planned to re-read it after it ended for real.. D. Gray-Man and Kuroshitsuji are only some that I remembered.

I sometimes read enough to fully burn myself out of manga for months. Or life gets busy.

A few months isn’t so bad, since my western comics burnout is at a decade and counting.

I often switch to going hard on a different hobby for a couple months. I usually notice when I log on here and realize I'm 10 chapters behind on some weekly series I was reading.

lol anyone who said "less than a day" is either forgetful or lying. It may not be on purpose, but there will always be the occasional whole days you don't have time to read anything.

Anyway, a few days for me. I don't think I've gone a whole week without reading any manga at all since I started reading regularly in 2004.

I haven't actually read an actual series in years. When I was really into manga, I didn't watch anime. Now I mainly watch anime (assuming there is anything to watch that is not isekai garbage). I don't own a tablet, so I can't really read in bed, whereas I've got a monitor with a long neck that I can turn to enjoy shows in bed though.

Willingly? I think 1-2 days if none of the series I was following were updating and there wasn't anything new catching my eye. Against my will? probably a few months and that was usually because a major manga reading site closed haha (onemanga, mangafox, batoto, etc)

If question is about one manga, than it's few months since I put manga on hold if I don't feel like reading them chapter by chapter, but don't want to drop them.
If question is about reading any manga in general, than it's few days, because I need my escapism.

Quote from Mamsmilk

I don't own a tablet, so I can't really read in bed

Wow, some 21st century logic. I get what you mean but as someone who does most of their reading in printed form the phrase just sounded really weird to me. It's like a few years ago I read on a magazine or something an interview with a pre-schooler and the last question was "what's your favourite game?" and while I was expecting hide-and-seek or something the answer was mine craft!

But regarding anime, seriously, what the hell happened. I haven't really watched anime in 15 years or so except for koukaku kidoutai. And while even back then over 90% of anime used to be rubbish, there were still plenty worth watching. But in the past few years I tried a couple times to find a new series to watch but even browsing through hundreds of series I couldn't find a single one. Even when trying to watch an episode of the most promising looking ones it was just fancy graphics with ZERO substance.

My question! 😃

I stopped reading manga for about 4 or 5 years at one point. I started as a teenager, quit while I was in my early 20s, and started again after I had a kid and was home more. I find it a good stress-reliever. I definitely used to read much more print manga and now it's mostly digital.

The longest break I had from reading any manga at all was about 2 years. It started in 2020 when I was too busy with work. Then even after things slowed down at work I focused on other things. This year is the first time in many years that I’ve gone back to reading manga almost daily.

I picked a week, but the longest break I had is a fortnight. Though I don't really like taking more than a week off manga because I get too stressed of the backlog created by all the ongoing series I follow lol.

I must've spent the entirety of my university years away from manga. I remember The Town Without Me being the first manga I picked up which rekindled this hobby.
