anyone here ever read the original stories of the journey to the west? With sun wukong and xuanzang and the rest of the gang? If not I know you've read manga that have been heavily influenced by it.
Dragonball and Saiyuki especially. I actually grew up on the stories of sun wukong, my dad would tell them to me like fairy tales when i was a little kid, and when i first saw DB and Saiyuki, it was a huge blast from the past.

I finished DB. Is that close enough?

I haven't read it, but I've watched TV adaptions of it from Hong Kong. I remember that I cried during one of the episodes. Looking back on it now, it wasn't that sad. It was about how some kind of skeleton demon was masquerading as a pretty girl and infiltrated the party, fooling everyone. Everyone except for Sun Wukong that is.
And so Sun Wukong got punished and left behind because everyone thought he was being paranoid and attacking an innocent girl. And after he got left behind, the demon showed its true colors and started wounding and killing people, including seriously injuring the master monk. And how Chu Bakai (sp? you know, the perverted pig) finally realized their mistake and ran to find Sun Wukong for help.
I read it...It was supposed to be a just requirement for Chinese class but I ended up liking it

No, it's not.
On topic, I own the book.
The edition I have is actually split into four seperate books, because its over 2,300 pages in length, total.
I got it about four years ago, having wanted to read the original for many years (Not just because of how it influenced Dragon Ball, either).
