the 2 leads aren't away from each other? I get so annoyed when they do that kind of timeskip when the 2 basically separate (via college or "fulfilling one's dream") even though they are still technically together and then see each other again after a number of years. I mean it's great that loves survives, but most of the time it kinda comes out of nowhere that one of them up and leaves.
