A thread to discuss the LIVE ACTION boy on boy love~ Come on, you LOVE it and you know it. Favorite BL actor? Favorite BL movie?

I like J-movies the best. I've watched like one or two Korean ones, and I've also watched Brokeback Mountain (which, unfortunately to say, I did not like). Favorite actor's probably Saito Takumi... Boy's Love and Itsuka no Kimi e (did I spell it right?) were some of his best films.

And also, I need some recommendations for BL J-movies. I haven't watched all that many, and I prefer Japanese since I can understand a little bit ^-^

I heard there's going to be a live-action vampire BL tv series coming out and it's Japanese... It's called RH Plus, I think it sounds really interesting.

I have not watch my dramas at all so I don't really know BL dramas.

Have you try Antique Cake? It's from Antique Bakery. It's not BL at all. The company decides to make it non-BL for the dramas but it's still funny and have certain fun moments. The sub is bad that it makes you laugh when you watch it.

The King and the clown is Korean. But really do try it. It's a very nice beautiful movie. I want to cry when I finish watching it. It's also technically not BL. A moving movie.

Saying "the subs are bad" is a BIT of an understatement - there were a few times when I understood more from listening to the original Japanese dialog than from reading the English subs, and considering how basic my Japanese is, that's pretty sad. 🤣

It does definitely have some implied BL moments, but that's about it, and yeah, it's a fun watch (esp. if you enjoy looking at Takey...however he spells it! 🤣 ).

Ooh~ Saito Takumi! I like him too, hehe.

Have you seen the second Boys Love (2007) yet? It's not Saitou anymore, but Kotani Yoshikazu is still there, with another guy (Kanno Atsumi?) as his partner. It's a teacher-student relationship in an all-boys dorm school.

I've also heard about Ai no Kotodama with Yasuka Saito! Although I'm not sure if it's out on DVD yet (I haven't seen it).

Personally I don't like BL J-dramas. The actors aren't that good. They do not show much emotions on their faces and love scenes are so awkward, amateur-ish, and not moving at all. The plots / storyline can be poignant and deep at times, but the execution is always lacking. The acting is very weak, very soft, and dare I say not very believable. No offense to fans. What I would recommend is the BL Korean movie "a frozen flower". Everyone's acting is so raw and strong, especially the King and his onesided , obsessive love is very much riveting. The cinematography, the fighting scenes, and the costumes are all simply breathtaking. Contrary to the OP's opinion, I actually liked brokeback mountain too. For me, the acting and storyline is top notch. The script is crisp, the characters believable, and the conclusion of the story so heartbreaking and real. Almost moved me to tears. I would love if people would give more recommendations, so bump.
