Oh, what a fun topic! I personally am not a fan of the following mangaka, and I'm sure there are more that I can't remember at the moment 🙂

Yamamoto Kotetsuko - Don't love overall
Naono Bohra - Don't love the ukes
Minase Masara - Don't love the plots

Naono Bohra!!! I despise her works both art and story-wise; I don't know why she's so popular 🙁
Nakamura Shungiku Once again.... why is she so popular...

I feel like their works are very cliche, kinda homophobic, and appeal to people who are like "Yaoi is great but it's gross to be gay in real life."

And I generally dislike mangaka who romanticize rape/incest/abuse or have the very typical triangle head, thick neck, giant hand art style lol.

"Nakamura Shungiku" -- oh my god YES, i totally understand!! i get that she definitely propelled what bl manga would become in the 00s/10s but i just can't get into her work.

i can hardly bother with either junjou or sekaiichi hatsukoi because it's so full of non-con veiled as bottoms who don't know their feelings yet. also i find her pairings a little repetitive: tall, cool-faced, rape-y top + much short, whiney, bit of an idiot bottom. i wouldn't mind this as much with other mangaka, but again i agree with you on the art style bc i also dislike the typical triangle head + yaoi hands art style of the 00s lol.

on the flip side, i've read that a lotta people don't like takasaki bosco but i myself love her work (or at least the three i read so far lmao)! folks who don't like her say her manga has little to no tension/stakes, and her character models also get a little repetitive, so i get that. on the other hand i actually really love the fact that i can read her bl and expect nothing violent or tragic to happen (i also really love her clean art style wow 🤣).

anyway this is an interesting thread bc i love seeing what folks like/dislike about mangaka!! 😁😁
