Been roaming around here for a few years, never bothering to sign up. Haven't been into manga for quite some time, but I'm considering getting back into it. Seems like you guys got a good site and community going here, so I figure if there's any place to help get me into new manga, this one's it. So, I guess I'm hoping to learn about some great manga, get reading, post a bit every now and then, and hopefully make some new friends.

Favorite mangas:
Ichi the Killer, due to its psychological complexity, expert plot and pacing, and sheer creative weirdness.
Battle Royale. Far better adaptation of Koushan Takami's novel than the cold, emotionless splatterfest that was Kinji Fukasaku's film adaptation.
Berserk. Haven't caught up with this series in awhile, but the first ark with Gutts and Griffith was just brilliant. I have never seen or read a more well-told story of the bond between two men.
Elfen Lied. Got kind of ridiculous toward the end, but no doubt had some blisteringly powerful scenes. Violent and emotional without being exploitative or sentimental.
Love Hina. Director Quentin Tarantino coined the term "hangout movie", which he describes as a film in which the characters just kind of chill and you get to know them. Each time you watch the movie again, it feels like you're just sitting down to hang out (and sometimes reconnect) with your old friends. That's how I feel about this manga.
Great Teacher Onizuka, the manga that inspired me to pursue a teaching career.
