The worst yaoi cliche is not girly guys. Of course there are girly guys in real life. What I hate most is the girly guy who's always submissive and uke and the "you are all wet" thing. OK, I am sure those authors and their readers have asses that can wet themselves then. 🤣

Plus, they are not gay men. Nobody mentions that they are gay. They are just raped and then turn gay, for the seme only. O_o

Yeah, too much melodrama is one worst cliche. Boring.

Also, I have met gay men who were totally like "girly ukes"... it's almost like meeting Ayase from Okane Ga Nai. 😛 Yes, I'm also talking about the "crying part", the clingy part and that "doe eyed"(puppy eyes) look they give you. And also, the voice... soo high-pitched and I can't believe it's some 20++ yr old guy. And even worse, I could just imagine roses blooming in the background like in some shoujo manga. O-o;; And soo... emotionally sensitive too... it's like they could burst into tears any minute... talking to them is like treading on some landmine, especially if the lover looks like he's going to crush you out of jealousy and for making him cry.

I've met people like that too. When I do I always think: "well I know who's catching" as awful as that sounds (I was wrong once too. Most surprising moment of my life). As well as the clearly feminine and flamboyant gay men. Still, I feel like yaoi manga takes it to a new extreme in steriotypical gay men, particularly with the inflexibility of uke/seme roles and just overall characterization.

Really, eh? I haven't read that much BL manga as of late... that makes me feel like that. Maybe all those crappy titles I used to read were probably more like that? Yeah... these days, I'm likely much more careful when it comes to choosing the kinda manga I read. .___. I kinda got sick of a lot of manga(not just BL in general) and tried to find something different to read. And also, tried to revise my outlook regarding various genres and on life.

Btw, what does "catching" mean in that particular context?

The uke's dick will NEVER be bigger than the seme's. Because that would just be crazy and biologically impossible 🙄

Naw. That happens. When seme is nerdy, for example. And you know this myth that small boys own a giant.

Quote from milque

And 98% of yaoi characters have vague, glowy outline of a dick.

You can also see that in seinen pretty often. They are either black or white. I don't think there are black ones in yaoi though. *likes it to be black
Now where's that 50 yaoi schlongs link... Aw, the pics disappeared. Anyway, it's definitely more than 2% 🙂

I wanted not to leave it as a cockpost but no, sadly.

i thought that was because japanses midea law forbid the appearence of human sexual organism?
so technically, the growing outline of a dick does not count as "appearence of sexual organism" you can also see that sometimes there is little black dot/cross across the penis, that also prevents "appearence of sexual organism"

One of the yaoi cliches I hate the most is when is a student/teacher relationship and the teacher that probably have like 40 something looks like a FREAKING 12 year old "boy"...WTF?
And the student a 17 year old or at least a minor looks like 20 something!
That's just impossible I feel like I'm reading shota 🤢

Also another cliche is that even though they are doing it for the first time BOTH feel freaking good, it's like come on Do you know how little and tight is that space? It's obvious it's going to be painful for both the uke and the seme, I mean it never bleeds!
The only manga I can remember where both didn't enjoy the first time was in Dog Style
I think a little realism wouldn't hurt (LOL in this case it would XD)

That's right! You get to see that in Hydra too...in fact they don't enjoy sex for a long while; you can't see blood because it is not that explicit but I am sure it's there.
Now if you want to see those effects plus rape better read Finder series..but that's a bit less realistic.
I love Dog Style ^^

lol. if I'm not ridiculously late, another cliche is DISPROPORTIONATE DICK SIZES. (Wow, that sounded worse than I expected. XD

Well, anyway, I hate it when the seme's junk is SO FREAKIN' HUGE. I know what you might be thinking, "There are guys with big dicks!" And I know there are, but I'm pretty damn sure there is no dick as long as my forearm and as thick as my fist. (NO freakin' way.) That's NOT gonna fit ANYWHERE.

An example is when a stereotypical uke tries so suck off a stereotypical seme's dick, and he's like petting it, and it's like half the size of his freakin' face. WTF!?

Umm.. Bleeding from anal sex is NOT normal. It's not completely unheard of, but it's fairly unusual.(Unless you're being raped/or doing heavy BDSM). Where do you get that idea? Do you usually bleed during anal? If so you're doing it wrong. Most people would ask you to see a doctor if you bleed after anal sex..
I'm not particularly fond of anal myself, but even my first time(with only spit as lubricant) didn't have more than a slight burn, some soreness in the morning. There def. was no blood. It's obviously different for different people but bleeding during consensual anal sex is not common and I've never heard anything like that from any of my friends(male and female) either.

That being said; I think the worst yaoi cliche is the romanticizing of rape. it's absolutely disgusting how it's being portrayed in most yaoi manga's. If it was used consiously as a kink (rape-roleplay) or just in hentai as a way of getting off I wouldn't have a problem,YKIMK and all that, but the way it's used to portray a seemingly normal and romantic relationship scares me.

Some other ones that bother me is how flamboyant gay men are always portayed as bottoms, because they just arent in real life. Or just the obsession with sexual positions or whatever. If the writer wants one person to always be "submissive" they should write them as having a Dom/sub, Daddy/boy or Master/slave relationship. Relationships like that exist and not just in bed either and it would make more sense in terms of the couples being loving relationships despite the fucked up power balance. Anyway, I'm ranting.. XD I mostly agree with what you guys said..

As for the "You're so wet" I'm pretty sure they're talking about precum most of the time.. ;P [Then again I wouldn't put it past them to have self lubricating asses.. XD]

This really bothers me, too. I wonder if it's an extreme version of the fact that often in Japanese entertainment even entirely consensual sex is portrayed with the woman/uke protesting "no, don't do that" at the beginning, as though not to make a token protest would be "slutty", or something.

I've recently been reading Kodaka Kazuma's Hana to Ryuu and while my first impression was "So, did a lot of people write to her and say that what Kizuna really needed was more rape?" I appreciate that so far (as of volume 17) none of the rape has been perpetrated by a character meant to be sympathetic, and rape does not result in love. (Iba and spoiler appeared to have a pre-existing love/hate relationship.)

On the issue of anal sex, one of my peeves is when artists take liberties with the anatomical location of the anus and position the characters as though the uke had a vagina. Sure, it looks more romantic to show them face-to-face, but at least try to make the angles plausible!

I guess one cliche I notice is semes often smoke..... Then again, normally the bada** character of the pair does, which just so happens to often be the seme..... O.o

Also.... I hate it when the characters act like men! Okay, I guess some elaboration is needed. You know the stereotypical man attitude: they always play the man card, have to be macho, never cry, stubbornly prideful, cant ask for directions. that kind of crap, but in love form. They refuse to share emotion or think its easier to leave then to stick it out. They suck at sharing feelings and that gets really annoying sometimes.

I have also noticed there has been an increase in HE topped HIM? moments, but I like those cliches! (power-to-the-unlikely-seme!)

Oh and you cant forget the ever popular "morning kiss" There is NO WAY you would french a guy after just waking up in the morning. Morning breath is the pits for everybody, lol.

I'm fond of the cliche where the cold emotionless guy, all of a sudden learns how to feel! As crappy as it sounds, its normally really cute! ^^ 🤣

But my favorite has to be the guy breaks up with girl for a guy and she's helps him. You know damn well if you got just got dumped for your brother you would not lift a finger to help the a**hole who dumped you. And you probably would be pissed at your brother too, 😮 But its my fav because the girl is always so awesome. Sometimes you want to punch the dumb clingy chick who ruins the romance but the heartbroken ex who tries to help her dumper get true love, is priceless, 😀

I really hate this cliche. 😔 It is only supposed to be romantic in the minds of those female readers due to certain cultural reasons, I believe. It doesn't mean it's indeed romantic.

Uhm I got it wrong XD. In Finder Series it would appear to be normal because this happens only in rape scenes. 😔
But the first time is supposed to be troublesome right? The cliché is that even when they haven't done it ever before and they don't get prepared well they enjoy it a lot!
lol at self lubricating asses, that is also a huge cliché.
