I'm a huge fan of racing (real life and gaming).... but the problem is, there aren't many great racing games out there nowadays, and I probably own the good ones.

Can someone recommend a good racing game that I haven't played yet?.... It doesn't have to be realistic, but the game mechanics must be solid. Preferably something with cars or bikes, not Wipeout type spaceships.

Consoles/Handhelds I own:
PS3, PS2, Wii, DS, GBA, PSP, Mega Drive (Genesis).

Some Recent Games I've played/enjoy,
- Mario Kart (Wii,DS,GBA)
- All the Gran Turismo Games (PS2,PS3)
- Tourist Trophy (PS2)
- MotoGP (PS2)
- Motorstorm (PS3)
- Nearly all the Colin McRea Rally games.
- GTA 1-4 (The racing modes/missions)
- Circuit Breakers (old skool top-down game)

As long as it's not on this list, please post. I'm not a fan of Need4Speed or Burnout games, BTW.... and please, no Looney Toon or Pokemon racers.
It doesn't have to have high review scores from magazines (but it helps).... as long as you enjoyed it.

Thanx in advance. biggrin

Dirt and Grid are both pretty cool if you haven't tried those.

Thanx for all the recommendations.... will look into them.

BTW... Please don't recommend Windows based PC games, coz I use Linux and MacOS. Flash/Java/Dos games are fine .... but nothing which requires DirectX... (For Linux users - I have no intention of running Win games under WINE)

I played Ignition a long time ago (I'm pretty old).... Great game.... but IMHO, Mario Kart is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH!! Never had a chance to play Ignition in multiplayer, though, so I may download it later.

I'll check out Dirt.... PS3, right? Rally game? Simulation or Arcade?

Dirt is a rally simulation game for ps3 or xbox 360. You don't buy cars on it, but pick from different cars depending on the type of race.

Well Forza is awesome, but I think it's XBox only at the moment. In any case, you really limited yourself by crossing out Burnout and Need4Speed, both not exceptionally great, but good in their own ways... Anyways, you can try...

PS2 - World Rally Championship (Rally race simulation more or less)
PS2 - Colin McRae Rally 3 (same type as above)
PS2 - Extreme-G 3 (relatively old... but I liked it, futuristic motorbike type racing)
PS2 - MotoGP 3 (Motorcycle race simulation)
PS2 - Crazy Taxi (Not really a racing game, but I liked it, lol)

I don't own a PS3, I just happened to tried these demos at local retailers before.
PS3 - Ridge Racer 7 (Arcade style racing)
PS3 - Motorstorm ( offroad racing)

as for Wii... wait I guess, but Nintendo console isn't really good in the racing genre...

As I stated in the initial post, I already own Motorstorm. Pretty good.... especially the bike racing. I ride motocross in real life and it's one of the few games with good dirt-bike action. Not a big fan of Ridge Racer, though. Too simplistic, IMHO.

As for your comments on the Wii.... it's sorta true. There aren't many good racing titles, but Mario Kart Wii is simply awesome. The absolute best multiplayer racing ever. Second only Mario Kart DS (I'm part of a group that meets to play it WiFi every other Sunday at the local McDonalds....Good Times!!)

I got Special Stage, it was worth it, its lots of fun, especially beating your own time attack.

Its Initial D: Extreme Stage (PS3), and it comes with an English manual for those who don't wish to struggle through the Japanese or Chinese manuals.
