Realistic setting that can include some supernatural elements. I guess? Most struggle to make up a strong fantasy setting due to the high amount of needed world-building so you will end up with the same 3 things but putting all that stuff in an alternate reality in the same way JoJo, Metal Gear or the cape comics do clearly works.
One of Marvel´s core philosophies is "The World Outside Your Window" and you see how much those films make but I prefer the way out there and barely recognizable DC word(s).

I also read EU/US comics and am a librarian.

While it need some time for the world building, it also gives the mangaka easy setting since they can just ignore some physics law, it brings more creativity and easier to execute mmm...

While realistic setting can get really good, but many of them can get boring, so unless it's really special it just won't be as good easily mmm...

I picked fantastical setting with many supernatural elements, but am also quite a fan of "realistic settings that include some supernatural elements."

"No supernatural elements" is also okay, though I'm not quite so enthusiastic about those.

No preference, but I do prefer that a story remain consistent about what it's trying to do.

Suspension of disbelief is just so much easier when you're given a world where you're told "that's just normal for everyone, get used to it".

When I'm given "the real world" and then suddenly MAGIC and we're expected to believe that no one had ever noticed before and they have a secret magic society kept off the internet forever... eh... my mind gets distracted.

There are of course exceptions. Ohba and Obata (Death Note, Platinum End) do a great job with shoving the supernatural into a realistic setting, establishing clear reasons for these supernatural elements to almost never interfere with the human world. Likewise, sometimes even fantasy settings just go too off the rails, breaking their own clearly established rules far too often for plot twist value (which is fine in a comedy fantasy manga but not a serious one).

But in general, a setting like One Piece is the easiest for me to get into and stay enchanted with.

I enjoy them all. I chose ‘realistic setting’ because that’s what I read the most of, but I have a soft spot for elements of absurdity/surrealism in otherwise normal settings, and any sort of magic and fantasy stuff can be entertaining when done well.

I only read a few stories with supernatural and prefer fantasy, set in different worlds, than something in our world.

Had to check my lists for this and almost all of my highest rated ones don't contain anything supernatural...

There really should be a no preference option though...
I read pretty much only romances, so character driven stories are way more relevant than plot driven ones, so the setting plays a minor role. Though fantasy stuff tends to be more plot driven so I guess that explains why. You don't build a world just to not use it after all.

That being said, there's a lot of realistic works out there that fail on the character front and also fantasy ones that excel at it.

I think I'm generally happier when I find a good story with fantasy elements because they are harder to find, even though I don't enjoy them as much as realistic ones, which is kinda weird...

For me the setting can be completely realistic or fantasy, I just want the characters to have believable personalities.

Why isn't there a "no preference" option?! 'Cause I like all of them!
