I had participated in a foreign exchange to Germany in 2006, after my sophomore year in high school. The exchange students came here for a month during the school year, and then over the whole summer we went to Germany and lived there, while attending school. It was one of the best experiences of my life, and I recomend doing an exchange to anyone who is thinking about it. You won't regret it.

I've been an exchange student in Italy from the UK. At first I didn't like it/ was shocked as hell because they left me there with basic Italian to find a place to live and sort out my courses etc on my own. Then I loved it! Meeting new people, new places - all very cliche but it was great. Plus it is very impressive in job interviews, etc 😛
Hope you're having fun!

I thought about it long ago when I was in school, but I looked at the price once, and actually laughed out loud.

you're right it is really expensive! but in norway, if you do it your junior year and you pass the required classes, the year counts as a year of school in a norwegian school, and the government pays like half 😛

No, but we had some South Korean exchange students come and I heard the school is sending some of us to South Korea 😎 I heard it's only Juniors so I have a good chance to maybe go which I really hope to do.

I spent 3 months with a host family in Spain when I was in college. And not to sound cliche, but it really was one of the best experiences of my life. I recommend it to anyone who has the means to do so.
If you've ever thought or said "Nice Guys finish last" and really meant it, then you should probably read this LJ post by DivaLion. It's incredibly insightful whether you're male or female.

In high school we had something like an exchange program, where every year the top 10 ranked students went to a different country all sponsored by the Athletic League. Freshman year we all went to the Philippines, which was a really great experience, the people I met there were super friendly and the food was freakin' awesome. <3
Every year after that we went to The Netherlands--really freakin' beautiful! I swear that with each year it just got lovelier. I'm going again this year during Spring Break since my old high school asked me to be a supervisor for the trip. I even get to choose a location! 🙂

Lucky you, I was in the top 5 all through high school in a class of almost 500 and we didn't get crap. I guess all those "exams" were balanced by the free trips. It is cool that you get to go back as a supervisor again though. I loved my exchange.

My class was pretty big too but we never had any free trips, actually we never even had trips...I would have loved to go to Germany, though. I'm taking the language class, so we're learning about the culture. and everything I've learned so far sounds fascinating~I'll probably go my self during the next 3 yrs.^-^
at my school, one year they made it so tha one year kids taking french could go to france for two weeks, and later on the french kids would come to norway. only problem was that they picked the 9th graders instead of the kids who had been learning it for a longer time. we were pissed >.>
can't say im complaining now tho, since im in the us for a whole year 🤣
