I bought this because I'm a fan of ANZU (seriously, I love her artwork), but I've never read the original X-Men <.<..., I know, shame on me XD.
But I kinda wish she'd stop with all the Del-Rey projects and start working on "Thirst of Angels" webcomic again sigh.
And I wish that ONCE, JUST FRIGGIN' ONCE, that there was NOT A DAMN LOVE-TRIANGLE! headdesk.
ANZU did make a character design for Wolverine, though:

Reminds me of Zack from FF VII.

AHAHAHAHA.
For a moment, I thought this was an April Fool's joke... But then I realized it wasn't April. @_@
Truly, the freakiest sketches I've ever seen. Don't get me wrong, I love shoujo - but this? This is sacrilege. Cross-genre adaptations simply shouldn't be done unless they can maintain the original spirit of the series, and there's no way in Iceman's HELL that this shoujo-esque adaptation can maintain the original spirit of the X-Men. Just... no.
Please, no. covers eyes
Edit: Have to say, though... Could people please stop mentioning the "apparent gayness" of these sketches as a bad thing? That's homophobic, y'all - even if you honestly don't intend it to be. First of all, sketches by themselves can't be gay unless there's actual gay content. And secondly, even if they were gay, that by itself would not be grounds to criticize the series. Willowy bishounen or hirsute wolf-men, who's to say who's really gay? 😉 You know what I mean? Art style by itself doesn't mean anything. And even if it did, I don't think gay characters would disenfranchise the original series. I mean, how the heck? Characters are just characters. As long as the plot and the action and the emotional/psychological issues remain consistent with the original, I think an adaptation would be just fine even if it weren't overwhelmingly (and unrealistically) heteronormative. Just saying. (Not that this discussion of mine has ANY BEARING on this actual shoujo adaptation, which I dislike for a thousand other reasons - just not the homophobic ones. Lol. No offense intended, seriously; it just makes me twitch when people use the words gay/tranny as criticisms in and of themselves.)

the xmen have sucked for like ten years now... and the gayness comment has some validity to it. Even though my interest was waning i still read xmen until marvel started releasing that ultimates shit where all the characters exist in present day. whats with making nightcrawler gay? the xmen were not gay. this is cheap. make a new superhero teen team of mutants and make them gay...NOT THE XMEN. don't even get me started on spiderman. i see this new xmen comic in the same way, its not manga go create a new superhero team thats manga... oh and stan lee is a shitty person for what he did to jack kirby. All hail Satan's 6

years ago, i remember being suck into the x-men series again and thought; what would an actual x-men manga look like?
curious and bored, i tried to draw characters from the series and, being influenced by the likes of Naruto (when it was good) and Hareluya II Boy, shonen-fied them. wolverine looked nothing like wolverine (mine looked a lot like Kasuga from Bremen), and so thought out a background story for him as an excuse pointing out it wasn't logan, but someone else as an homage to logan. this in turn lead me to create and plan out a full story of this non-existant series, a high-school/ delinquent/ action/comedy shonen (lasting for 3 arcs), from beginning to end. alas, i'm not that good an artist or story-teller, gave up on it all, knowing full well this will never be exposed to the world, and threw it in the garbage bin.
knowing THIS abomination exists just convinced me to give it all a try again. 🙄
Oooh.I saw this in a bookstore!..And didn't bother to pick it up. O_O. Beast..looks..so different.

Okay, so far the only mangaka to make a decent manga version of any western comic is Tsutomu Nihei and that guy that drew that one Batman manga a short while ago.
What they should stop doing is trying to convert Marvel to some crappy cliche manga story and get some of the mangaka to work on some Marvel stories. That's the only way this kind of thing will work more often than fail.

I for one like sparkle sparkles. I might end up reading this. It looks like the author misunderstood everything good about X-Men and replaced it with Shoujo Cliche #4, but whatever. The art is pretty.
