So I could've sworn I had this in my reading lists somewhere, but I've just spent the past twenty minutes using permutations of fantasy + shounen + action to search my lists via advanced search, and no dice, so I figured I might as well ask here.

Does anyone know the name of this (actually fairly generic) shounen fantasy action/adventure series about magicians (or wizards)? It read very much like a copy of Naruto or Black Clover, and it took place in a world where magicians were well-known and used wands/staffs. Main character couldn't use magic at all, but in the early chapters he gets somehow fused with this (dark?) wand/staff which allows him to use magic, though he can't control it very well.

I vaguely remember that there was a magic class that he ends up attending. And I remember one of the "tests" they have to do is to survive in a forest for a set amount of time (I think maybe a day or two?) with rabid wolves chasing them, though if they felt they were in danger, they could activate an artifact that'd transport them to a safe place at the expense of failing the test.

The main character (+ friends) obviously try to actually fight these wolves off, but it's revealed at the end that the wolves were actually just illusions to test their bravery/courage in life-threatening situations, and none of the students were in any actual danger.

I also remember explicitly that this wasn't a Shounen Jump series LOL. But I don't quite remember what magazine it was actually in...

EDIT: Never mind, I found it! Apparently it was on my list, just not tagged with "fantasy" (yet -- tagging it now), which is why I missed it. It's Junk the Black Shadow. Sorry for the extraneous thread -- feel free to lock this, mods.
