The last thing I want to engage in are OP theories, especially about what the treasure itself is, but I am willing to bet that this is real. The Japanese YTber【Drop the Pizza】released an explanation on March 26 2023 about what a pole shift is and why she is convinced that OP is using that sci-fi trope: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udFInWtZOK4

The Second Impact in Evangelion, a billion-dollar 90s IP, leads to that for example and Miyazaki´s only full TV show is all about it. A show from Oda´s childhood by one of his favorite filmmakers. The way Oda marked the displayed wider map of the OP world, with the specific degree of the earth´s axis (23° just like Earth), and all the geographic problems with Yaya only make sense with a 90° tilt. The South Pole was confirmed to be colder by Oda in-universe (also true on Earth) so Shanks got that famous early quarrel with Buggy correct but a pole shift might give Buggy the W. A 3-decade punchline in the making. The equator isn´t the Grand Line btw, see the compass in chapter 1056. Chapter 22 or 908 also show a glove view proving this but none of that unhinges the theory.

Turning the World Upside Down is said at key points in the manga. Technically a pole reversal, which is a real thing on our planet. Roger says that to Rayleigh at the very moment they meet for example. A 180° reversal of the currents due to an undone 90° axis shift would not only lead the story and ocean current back to Loguetown & Reverse Mountain, which the story is set to return to anyway, but it also leads us back to the very first page of the story if Roger´s words are translated literally. OP has thousands of untranslatable puns. The first one opening the manga is on brand. More about that in the 2nd link. Kid further got highly underused Magneto powers (Magento achieved pole reversals in multiple canons), Blackbeard´s and Fujitora´s powers aren´t too far off and Luffy can warp reality now. The pole shift might also happen naturally 2 full decades after the dying Roger arrived on Laugh Tale so that is how he came "too soon" can be explained. He can´t wait as he will die within a year or so. Regardless of that, the plot features characters who can tilt the planet itself and quirks with the Tree of Knowledge´s waterline or Wano´s sea walls suddenly make sense. GrandLineReview summarizes her theory today in English with more visual aids, as the original is Japanese with subs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShuHAUAAbfw

Watch whatever video you please, I say both, and I found a similar idea, in very basic form, on Reddit from January 2023 with only 2 comments that end on a more flawed conclusion. Inner_Rain_4207 must feel smug AF right now after the No. 1 OP channel on the web began to shine a light on OP´s messed-up poles.

Update: The planet faces catastrophic climate change as of chapter 1089 due to the World Government´s use of continent-destroying weapons. This confirms that the WG itself has the means to reshape the planet playing into the void century sub-plot. Aka Joy Boy´s time who was part of the last generation to traverse the planet as it was 800 years ago if we take a version of this theory at face value. Nearly all OP theories are fact-finding missions to reshape the plot into ONE desired outcome. A pole shift on the other hand makes dozens of other things make sense at once. Luffy hardly fights for the status quo so I don´t see that stopping it is the end goal and more so achieving it. The Calm Belts would disappear and would unite the seas into the All Blue. Nami gets to make the first correct map of the planet in centuries. Wano won´t be stranded at almost the end of the world. The Marines would lose their power as they are one of the few who can pass the Calm Belt making their forces nearly impossible to defend against. Etc. A immediate pole shift would of course lead to mass death and no arks like Noah can solve that. The main issue with all of this even if OP barely cares about applied science.
Drop the Pizza´s theory might not have cracked the code but she certainly saw the Matrix in from of her. I checked out 2 other videos of her and wasn´t impressed but that doesn´t take away from her observations in this case. Bringing up Graham Hancock´s Fingerprints of the Gods, published in 1995 of all things, gave me a good laugh but the book was released in February 1996 in Japan. That piece fits perfectly and the book is popular in Japan with illustrated editions being made: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fingerprints_of_the_Gods

Chariots of the Gods? was heavily used for the backstory of Evangelion, Alien/Prometheus or Stargate so don´t underestimate the effect of puedo science on genre writers. Hancock is still alive. I would grow an ego the size of a planet if I discovered that a book I wrote was used to construct the backstory of a multi-billion-dollar IP. Now we wait.
