Before i stared reading manga and watching anime, I read lots of novels, american comics, and watched a ton of movies. But nowhere in my like have I run across so many sad stories as I have sine I've been reading manga and watching amime.

I just read a manga and every part of it was tragic and the characters were filled with bitterness and regret. It was suppose to be a romance but the couple never really actually got together due to past pains they experienced and the male even dies. I felt like dying myself after the ending.

i watched an anime movie the other day about a beautiful 30 year old woman looking back and regretting much of her past. The whole movie she were flashbacks of her regret. At the end, she might of had one little chance to change things, but she chose not too because she didn't want to let go of her pride. I wished i would of watched it even it was a fantasticly done anime as fart as the artwork.

You know, i read because i want to escape from my world into a make believe world. I want to feel good living through fictitional characters. I wish they would start stamping a sad label on the real heartbreaking stuff so I can avoid it. I have my own life to get depressed about, i do t need any extra.

Thanks,
Jeffrey

Hello,same here ;P

First don't die!
and good way to get away from "Sad" things is: Comedy!!
Hmm I don't remember any good Comedy movie/manga but,find something...(anything)
When you laugh you Forget every bad thing that's occurred to you...(although it might be for only a moment)
Other option is listen to good music any music that's feels good to you.(helps to forget ;P)

Hope i helped you ;P
Found Romance manga for you :
*Love Celeb , but it might be for (18+) so...

Psych

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is, but there is already a tragedy genre, and tags which point out sad things.

Or is it that you think there should be a tag to point out especially sad/depressing titles? Because that could be a bit of work, tagging every sad title.

Well, whatever the case, I'm sorry that you feel as you do. As the last person suggested, I would stick to what you know is comedy for a while if you feel so bad and don't want anymore sadness.

The point of this thread is that i just wanted to express the fact that there are a lot of sad mangas with sad endings. Thats's really all. Yes, im aware of the tragady tag. However, i also know from experience that the tags are not always accurate. I see the romace tag on stories that have little or no romance. I see the seinen tag or josi tag quite often on a story that seems more like a shounen or shoujo.

But i just wanted to express my thoughts on Sad stories and also that im just not a huge fan of them. I like a happy ending. Thats all.

Your thoughts are similar to mine, well, maybe not the 'sad' label, but I read the comments here first for that.

I think that there are many people who feel that tragic stories are more important, worthwhile, realistic, artistic, or otherwise somehow better than a story that has a happy ending. I don't believe that. For one thing, just as life isn't all happy, neither is it all sad, so tragedy isn't more realistic. I think it is a sign of mental health to want to read a story that uplifts. I prefer art to be redemptive - there can be sadness, even very tragic events, but in the end I want to see a transfiguring outcome.

You should avoid the movie 5 Centimeters per Second. I wanted to slit my wrists after I watched that. On the other hand, watch Howl's Moving Castle or Summer Wars, both leave you with a good feeling.

Nope, watch it anyways. Then watch something cheerful.

I agree with this. You should watch something like Whispers of the Heart after a sad movie.

I'm not sure if this is actually true or not. I think that the more popular movies and shows (at least in the US) seem to be more upbeat and positive. but if you look at everything that's out there, I think there are as many movies, books, and tv shows that are depressing as there are manga and anime.

I'm actually the opposite of you. I prefer stories (manga, movies, tv shows) that are more realistic and includes the harshness (as well as the sweetness) of the real world. I know a lot of people read (or watch) for escapism, but I'd rather have stories that are relatable.
