I'm personally pretty open about concepts of sex and gender roles and such so the idea of a male getting pregnant doesn't bother me in the least. But as you can see from some of the responses to this thread, some people are incredibly bothered by it. Which is probably why scanlation groups feel it's necessary to put in a warning.

I haven't read much mpreg at all, though--the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Sex Pistols, and I actually quite like the whole pregnancy idea in that manga. It's very well-explained and pretty much fits perfectly with the context of that series.

I can understand the concept behind what Vilde is saying, in the transgender or hermaphrodite sense. In that context I don’t think I would have a problem at all with male pregnancy. So thank you for bringing that to light because I had not thought of it that way.

That is not always the scenario in these stories, however. I guess what I was trying to say earlier was that it just sort of defeats the purpose of having two penises. To me, "gender" is all about mind and the "sex" is about body. If we focus on the "sex" for a moment; when a penis (or whatever organs they use in these stories) takes on the properties of a womb... why not just make it a vagina? That is what a vagina is all about, after all. It just seems pointless to me to dance around biology just to make it gay. I like fantasy, but it is not the fact that it is implausible that makes me hesitate ...it just seems like a girl in that situation would suffice. If I were looking to read a story with a baby in it I would be content if the mother was a girl. Women are still an option after all.

I think what it boils down to is those that find interest in pregnancy but prefer BL will find a way to understand mpreg and accept it into the norm. Those who lack interest in either of the two (in my case pregnancy) then they tend not to consider it and let it make sense. They are simply a step behind and don’t really want to take the leap into a destination that they care little to see. It is not a real life issue, so I have a hunch it would be difficult to reach them unless you can convince others it is worth growing an interest for.

I get what you are saying. Sort of. If you're talking about original works at least. But Mpreg is after all most popular in fanworks(especially fanfiction) in wich the characters allready exists in their respective genders. Some people(myself included) are somewhat "genderblind". In other words I never ship a couples based on their gender, but on their chemistry. I even ship het in yaoi mangas, something that is fairly rare. In that case I might want to read one of the characters getting pregnant regardless of gender. Some people then do what you said and genderswitch their characters(For example turning Ciel into a girl so he can get pregnant) but I personally have some problems with Genderswitch. As I think that our respective genders have a lot to say on how we develop as people and I think our personality would be different if we changed our gender. Not too mention that the relationship dynamic would be different. Does this make sense?

Yaoi with Mpreg? The only one I've read so far has been Sex Pistols...are there more? 😕
I know when I'm searching through fics authors write warnings of Mpreg and really as weird as it sounds and is, I don't have a big squick about it. If well written, I'll read it. One problem I have with it is the male becoming over girly like his character will completely change to that of a female woman. But I wonder how authors will pull off the birthing process 😲

Most Mpreg as intersex/hermophrodite characters. In other words: there is a vagina there as well. Some use magic aswell to create an "artificial womb" and what not..

I actually don't mind ANYTHING - and I really do mean that, anything - if it's well-drawn, well-written and intelligent.

I don't actually think that having a womb of any sort necessarily makes the guy less of a guy, in the sense that it depends on what he identifies as. You know... Any more than a girl being a futanari (if you're into that sort of thing) becomes a non-girl. Really depends on the character's own choice and orientation. I don't judge based on that.

I don't find it offensive or weird, just too crack. But I honestly haven't seen too many mpreg manga, only fan fics.

The first time I found out about male pregnancy was when I read an Inuyasha fanfic (Sesshomaru was pregnant), and I was just very grossed out. After a couple of months of reading a ton of slash and yaoi manga, I decided to try and read it again because of curiosity, and I found it...cute. Now, I read a ton of MPreg and I'm just fine with it. In my opinion, fanfics where Draco (from Harry Potter) becomes pregnant and Harry finds out is really cute and makes me grin like a fool 😀
But for some reason (I'm not really sure why), I get a bit weirded out from fanart with MPreg in it. Well, more acurately, I get weirded out when the guy is very pregnant (well, I get weirded out whenever I see a woman very pregnant). I have a friend who likes yaoi and slash pairings, but gets grossed out by MPreg. She never explained why exactly she doesn't like it, though. Another friend of mine (a guy) says MPreg is just degrading a man, and makes him too woman-like, but he doesn't mind it if an uke is very uke, and almost girl-like.

Even if a person doesn't like it, I don't see what's gross about it. They probably wouldn't feel that way if it was a woman, so why is pregnancy suddenly disgusting if it's a man? And that's a very sexist thing for your friend to say. Again it's either degrading because it's a "womanly" thing, and womanly things are degrading for men, or that it's okay for women to be degraded with pregnancy, but not men.

You guys might like this Madonna song (or at least the lyrics). It is basically saying how it is okay for a girl to act like a guy, but it is not okay for boys to behave like girls; because it is not okay to be a girl. So, in a way, homophobia might branch off of sexism..? Food for thought.

I agree about the sexism thing. (What it feels like for a girl popped into my head aswell.)

However, to say that Homophobia comes from sexism is simply not true. Lesbians experience just as much homophobia as gay men. So the concept that being a girl = bad, therefore being gay = bad doesn't work. By that logic masculine lesbians would be super popular because they act "like men", and that just isn't true in real life.

Admittedly, that argument popped into my head moments after I typed it up but I was too lazy to alter my post. XD You are right though! I was even wondering if it would work for transgender people… but even female to male people get hate as much as male to female. This world is just full of hate, isn’t it? @_@ Jeez.
