Okay, this has been bothering me. Isn't "adult" supposed to be more explicit than "mature?" A lot of "mature" series that I've read have more explicit content than Basilisk. For example: Gantz, Battle Royale, and Ichi the Killer. Someone please explain this to me.

Basilisk might have been labeled adult because of the level of violence. As far as I see, ppl tend to use "mature" term for manga with a lot of explicit scenes, and "adult" for manga with really serious themes, like high level violence, crime, death, drugs, etc.

BR, Ichi the Killer, and Gantz all have way more violence than Basilisk, yet they're still labeled mature.

Basilisk is very tame compared to Battle Royale etc... It has violence but it isn't bad compared to the others. It doesn't have brains spilling out everywhere or limbs flighing around.
It also doesn't really have sex in it which cannot be said for the others as well.

i wish i read enough of Gantz, Battle Royale, and Ichi the Killer to compare but i would say because of the sexual nature of Basilisk. most of the kunochi pretty much get taken advantage by the males and in the process their skills are performed during the intercourse.

other than that i guess different ppl are rating the content.

Basically, the high-level of explicit themes in Basilisk deserve such a title.
