I won't read a manga on hiatus. No matter how good it is, I would be annoyed that I can't read the ending.

I'd still read it to both. Always. Some of the best comic/books of all time had irregular publication schedules and the best manga after King of Hiatus (but not really) Berserk will forever remain unfinished due to the author´s death. Namely Hi no Tori.
Frank Herbert´s Dune ended on a cliffhanger too, as he died, yet it´s still the best Sci-Fi work of all time. Who knows what will happen to A Song of Ice and Fire and so on. All sort of good games as Kotor II or FF XV are a swiz cheese too, yet they are still worth playing.
Mozart´s Requiem is unfinished too, yet how many actual composers were buried to it´s sounds. That thing is so famous that most of you heard it. It even shows up in anime.

There will be all sorts of things i won´t get to see though when death strikes me, so take in all you can till then.

It's gonna be a pass for me, especially if I find the plot interesting. Waiting for the next chapter of an ongoing manga? Agony. Waiting for the next chapter of a manga on hiatus? Death.

Yup, skip it without a doubt, wouldn't read even the first chapter of it. I'd be crazy to throw even more time away with what could potentially end up being just one more abandoned (unfinished/not fully translated into English for whatever reason), never-to-get-read-the-end-of title to my already quite large list of 'em.

I'd skip it. Actually, I have a list of series that caught my interest but are on hiatus. It's made just for me to rage on it (and to know if they eventually resume serialization, but they never do).

Chose I'd still read it. Mostly.
But, depending on review or it's incomplete + dropped status, I may choose to skip a series sometimes.

Still read it. Hunter x Hunter and World trigger are definitely worth it despite being in hiatus right now. And reading scanlated manga is like reading things in hiatus sometimes. Even buying physical volumes is like that. Sometimes you can't be sure if the next one will ever come out.

Well... Usually, hiatus is temporary. I have a list to move the stuff around when it goes on hiatus (and then move it back to the reading list when it comes back). I don't really mind hiatus...
If it's a hiatus that seems forever (remember Nana?), nope. It's a really incomplete manga and it's one of my pet peeves after starting a ton of mangas that never got new chapters or translations. My country barely sells manga (other than Naruto and the other mainstream stuff), so I have no way of reading other than fan translation.
My usual process to check if I should read it or not? I usually check the last time it had an update. If it had updates in the past 500 days, I add it to my lists. If it's over 500 days and no update, then it gets tagged as an unfinished manga on my lists and never read it.

It really depends on several things. 1) There are some mangaka that I love, and I'll search all over for even a couple chapters of their work. 2) Episodic stories often don't have to be finished to still be enjoyed.

On the other hand, if it's not a favorite mangaka or I've heard negative things about it - ended on a cliffhanger, story went downhill - then I would skip it. There are a lot of other things to read.

It really depends on the series. If it has 3 really great volumes and the 4th one ends on a cliffhanger than I'll just read up to volume 3. I don't mind having an incomplete series as long as it has a decent ending.

However, if it's a single volume that acts like it was going to be continued but never was, than I'll skip it entirely.

It depends on the manga and how many volumes before it went on Hiatus. The longer the volume count the more likely I am to read it because I know some of the story elements are likely to be resolved. The shorter the less likely unless it really grabs me in the opening chapters.

Nana has been on hiatus since 2009 and I don't ever regret reading it. There's been manga where the mangaka got sick, like say Teppu, and I've waited patiently for them to get healthy and come back to finish it. There's always hope that it may come off hiatus, its harder for me when a good manga gets axed and there's little hope of continuation.

This is why we have the option to create our on lists on MU isn't it? But yeah, if I hadn't started it already, then I put it on my To Read list and skip it (I have another list for things I'm already reading, but are on hiatus/etc.).
