Hold Up... Publishing Yaoi over Shoujo Smut?

It's because it sells better.
Maybe this doesn't apply to the rest of the world, but from what I've seen around where I live, generally the kind of girls that read shoujo all the time don't want smut in what they read. And the kind of girls that like manga and want to see some 'action' go straight for the yaoi and prefer it over het.

The Yaoi that is published in Canada in Chapters (a Chain) is on regular book shelves but with plastic on it. I bought one and it was RIDICULOUS OH MAN. THE GUY GIZZED ON THE OTHER GUYS FACE IN THE FIRST CHAPTER. (Love Pistols if you must know)
...A little more... INTENSE then your average smut don't you think?

Guys do that all the time though, but in shoujo smut...it's supposed to be romantic, so of course it doesn't show how it really is 😮

Yeah, porn can have a plot [hentai included] but yaoi [BL] isn't always porn. Most smut-yaoi I've read is about as bad as regular shojo smut titles, really. And no, I have never heard of 18+ manga put up so high on shelves, at BORDERS most 18+ yaoi comics are put along 'normal' manga.

Uh, its romantic in yaoi too. Technically, yaoi IS a type of shojo smut. :-]

Ok, so it's like this, publishers wouldn't publish things that have no audience.
The large scale of licensed yaoi manga goes to show us
that apparently the demand for yaoi is bigger than for shoujo smut.
And Kitteh, please don't go against a whole genre
just because you read some titles that weren't to your liking.
It's not a question of what you like.
It's what most people who pay for that licensed manga like.

Well no, I didn't hear anything. My point was, since it's wrapped in plastic you can't open it up and read it, and that is the reason why it's not on the top shelf
In general, only porn in video stores is kept on the top shelf if even then. It usually isn't if they have the case covered with the store's logo or whatever.

I don't get how that market got started in North America, being so censored.
I just don't understand how something so taboo became such a popular imported product,
And Nightswan, I'm not saying anything against people who read yaoi. Everyone has their preferences but I don't like. it. Just like how I never read shounen. Just don't really like it. Although Playboy Amour was pretty damn good.

Recently Chapters (Basically Borders in America) has been releasing Yaoi with some explicit content that is released by Tokyopop.

I really don't care when people bitching about Yaoi because every one is free to choose whatever they like but you are saying while you can't bear with Yaoi because it is just pure hentai and not very romantic, you still can read Kayono's stories and referring to her works as a good sample of smutty shoujo ? 😕
come on, that woman is a vulgar, shameless thief who stoles her ideas and copies scenes/art style from Yaoi stories and replaces the roles of man/man with a girl/man and just like that she is feeding her readers a Yaoi based story with a flashy Shoujo cover!! if you really like her stories, then you can't say you hate Yaoi just because stories are too hentai and perverted or the characters are dirty. it more seems to me that you have a problem with two guys doing it but when one of the guys is replaced with a girl, the same scene which makes you gross, suddenly seems very hot and romantic! 🙄
Yaoi has big communities of enthusiastic fans all around the world meaning more people are willing to spend money for having their favorite stories as published works. and publishers mostly think about more benefit so it is natural they come to publish what brings them more money.

I never said her stuff wasn't. And yes, I've read the story she ripped off and I found her 100x better. The guy in the other story was just a woman with a penis anyways so it worked better as a heterosexual story.
I never said I hate yaoi. Not once. I love guy on guy, it doesn't "gross me out" as you said. I just hate the overated feminine male. I would rather watch gay porn then deal with that.

Let me say this straight-forward: Yaoi was originally made as a "alternative" type of shojo smut manga back in the 70s. Would I say yaoi (BL) is homosexual pornography? No. Why? Becuase the whole point of BL is a fantasy that is an alternative to the boy x girl type shojo comics. It gives a sense of passion not found in regular shojo smut. And since I have sources:
I can say that the point of yaoi is not to be necassarily 'homosexual sex manga' but smutty romance to be enjoyed by women and teenage girls. I am a huge fujoshi (rotten-girl/ yaoi fangirl)
and am rather insulted by your "yaoi is homosexual hentai, shojo smut is better" excuses... because in reality, yaoi is a subgenre of shojo smut. Many shojo artists such as Makoto Tateno and Yuu Watase will tell you around the same thing I have said just now. Why? Becuase many shojo artists also draw YAOI!
If that didn't answer your question, ask me again, I'll try to re-phrase it.
