We all know that there's currently some problems with the auto tracking on the reading list.
For example, it only tracks chapter and not volumes.
Also, say that a group releases up to chapter 23, and then someone suddenly releases chapter 87.
Now that tracking is going to get stuck at 87 for a long time.
Also, any kind of "bonus" contents like omake or similar doesn't show either.

What i suggest is to completely remove the chapter tracking, and instead have a "new release tracking".

Basically, every time anyone releases something, doesn't matter what chapter or volume, instead of displaying the chapter number in red, just display "[new]" or whatever.
And after you've checked what's new you can click the "[new]" and it disappears.

I think this is a brilliant suggestion and solves the volume, omake and other problems, and notify you if any new contents comes up.
After all, if we've read to chapter 47, do we really need get notified of that chapter 48 has been released? It's kind of obvious that it's suppose to be the next in line.
Might as well put up a [new] instead that include other contents too.

Personally i find "new" just a bit vague and not as informative as what's currently listed (the "latest" chapter number). Maybe I'm not following your post that well, if not can you clarify.

While I do agree the omakes, extras, and the bizzarre ordering of scanlations that are done can make tracking harder and if something done can be implemented to cope with this would be nice however I think your suggestion might make the thing more chaotic.

I agree that simply 'new' would be too ambiguous, especially if you were away for a few months.

Perhaps mods could keep chapters that are out of order from showing up on the list as unread to begin with as the release is approved?

This is a pretty annoying problem. I have some ideas about how to fix it, but I've got bigger fish to fry at the moment. Thanks for the suggestion.
