This week's poll was suggested by swordfish307. Are people still mostly reading manga? Or has the uptick of webtoons changed your habits?

Equal mixture of some choices above

The question asks nowadays, but my habit apply in the long run.

As someone who grew up with manga, I can't stop reading it even though webtoon is booming right now. I do like free stuff, but in the end I take other considerations into account because I'm an incredibly picky reader. In terms of genre, manga is far superior in offering a variety of story. When I'm stuck in one trope, I have another to spare. So, everything is safe. Then apart from myself, sometimes it depends on how many scans are available. Because reading raw requires a lot of patience, in between busy times I like to read what can be read. Again, it's not a problem.

Well, I have bias towards manga, but that doesn't mean I reject the charisma of a manhwa. I want to scream to the world that I also enjoy non-isekai original stories. Waahh, I love it so much that I'm addicted. Their style is very k-drama material. Once I found a good one, I expected to look for a similar solid story. There are some manhwas that are very mature and calm by nature, so when the mood demands, I read them. But still not as many as manga tho.

A mix. Only problem with that is the switch between right-to-left and left-to-right. It'll take a couple of panels, sometimes pages until my brain realises I'm reading it backwards... especially when reading something with not so great panel layout/ bad translations. I once read 16 chapters of a certain manhua webcomic before realizing.

Manga read: ~4350

~1600 Ongoing...

I chose "Equal mixture of some choices above" as my answer. It's been both a life long habit and something I've done more recently. I'm in one of my superhero phases as we speak so I'm reading Invincible at the moment. It's very good. My main manga I'm reading nowadays are Kengan Omega and Record of Ragnarok because of my interests in Martial Arts and Mythology. The main manwha/webtoon I keep up with is the God of High School.

So the rest of the world doesn't have comics?

honestly myself, I don't really care about what country it comes from as long as it's a good story and has a translation that is decent. That said, manga is usually the best option with Korean manhwa as a decent second and Chinese manhua as a distant 3rd. I'm not listing English webtoon or comics simply because I don't think I've read any except one and i only found out it was an English webtoon because this site wouldn't track it as it has some kind of policy against it.

I'm definitely Definitely on the Manhwa train lately. I've read so many random romance and martial art webtoons recently.

I swear it feels like a new world because I feel like 10 years ago, i would have said Japanese but with all the apps out there for folks to read chinese, korean, or western comics make it so much more accessible.

Don't know how it happened, but mostly switched to Korean stuff. lately. Of course i do read a bit of all other 4 options still but korean stuff dominates. (Yes even english webtoons... Well, one of them)

for me even letting korean comics in took finding out in the genres I like, korean mc's tend to make better choices. japanese ones wont kill a bad guy even if it screws them in the future, korean ones will kill the bad guy, but chinese ones have to take the bad guy from 10 to 12 so they come out so cartoonishly evil that even the evil that is supposed to be the good guy is tame in comparison. there is a reason for it but not 100% sure how far I can make a tirade go on this site.

10 years (maybe a bit more) ago korean comics were kind of crap, at least the ones that got translated. but the move to webcomics and the iterations since they started this format got them to be fairly good on the pacing front now, argueably on par with manga. i would take a well paced manga over a korean comic almost any day of the week.

Tbf this is a Weeb Forum. I'm not entirely convinced that some people have grown out of their "Japanese manga is the best because blood and booba" phase, much less know that other countries create comics /j
