cant u die from those?

Yes, in some parts of the world you can actually die from a mosquito bite from disease. Probably polio or allergic reactions.

I don't think polio is spread by mosquitoes, but malaria definitely is, and also West Nile Virus. I have "sweet blood" and attract mosquitoes like crazy, so I mostly just...stay indoors. 😔

Wow, I'm surprised I don't get bitten by too many mosquitoes if they're really attracted to high blood sugar.

I think "sweet blood" is just a figure of speech, meaning that the mosquitoes like it, and not something to be taken literally as the person having high blood sugar. 🤣

As far as I know my blood sugar is normal, but I'm a mosquito magnet. (T_T)

I've no idea how my blood sugar is, but they love me as well. Yesterday at a repair shop a guy was telling us how he used to work out on the river and the mosquitos never bothered him because he ate a lot of onion, though. It's supposed to come out your pores and drive them away, he said, or something like that.

Well, I guess misquito's would be naturally attracted to some people... Maybe the type of soap you use or your perfume/cologne.

But Misquito's find the blood more of a treat if your body is processing sugar throughout your body at the time the take a bite.

As to how this attracts more misquitos... I dunno

I actually learned this stuff back in entomology class, but it's been close to 15 years, so it's pretty hazy...

I believe I was taught that mosquitoes (and other biting insects) are attracted by the CO2 emitted by the skin, so if you eat foods whose smell is also emitted from the skin, or for whatever reason have a body smell that masks the CO2, they just don't even realize you're there. Insect repellents have a chemical that masks the body's CO2 from the insect, or something like that....

I do know for sure that mosquitoes go for blood because they need the protein, not the sugar. There may be something about having higher blood sugar that makes the skin emit more CO2 or something & thus makes you more attractive to mosquitoes, I don't know about that, but it's not the sugar they're after.

i heard as a kid that eating bananas would make mosquitos avoid you. It was something on tv and had to do with the smell

they could have just been trying to trick us into eating more fruit though

I'm kinda used to them, they even bit my hands while using the computer on summer, I hit them with my other hand but I don't always get them.
