So I'm tired of mangas that end with the couple getting together (just finished I love her) I'd love to find a series with them as a Chile for a while. Is like to find something where they were a little more physical (unlike kimi ni todoki for example which is really drawn out in that regard) but not smut (I five smut mangas often feel kinda dubcon-y to me).

I'm not entirely sure if I understood you right. You want a manga in which characters are a couple from the start or closer to start than the end and where they get psychically close, but the manga doesn't turn smut?

Basically I'm looking for something that explores a relationship between a couple but isn't the sweet innocent fluff of shoujo (I love them but I want something different) or rife with consent issues like smut manga (I've read way too many mangas with experienced boys pushing themselves on inexperienced girls who literally don't have the first clue about sex).

Something like Mars, or I think Kiss was also good in this regard. Nana actually fits too, clearly I should be combing through josei lists.... But I think I've read a lot of the popular ones.

Basically yeah, doesn't even need to be the marriage and kids route so much, I'd just like to read something where they interact as a couple. Kare Kano, for example if I recall (which technically did end with marriage but that's not a requirement).

Fukuyadou Honpo. I'll warn that the art is ugly by anyone's standards, but the story is good and sounds like the type of thing you're looking for. It deals with three relationships - one married couple, one non-married but mature couple, and one middle school couple.

Other stuff that may or may not be suitable:

Nodame Cantabile - the couple is mature (college age) but maybe not what you would define as coupley. The emphasis of the manga is less on the relationship and more on their ambitions/support of each other in fulfilling their ambitions. This is one of my favourites though.

Bokura ga Ita - High school couple. They get together in the first chapter. A bit of sweet fluff at the beginning, but quickly spirals into angst.

Hachimitsu to Clover - College/older couples. Like Nodame, I don't know how 'coupley' it is. This is one of my favourites too, but maybe not the best if you're looking for a successful couple interacting in a successful couple way.

Koukou Debut - innocent high school couple, probably not what you're looking for, but it's a pretty funny portrayal of a high school relationship and doesn't buy into a lot of cliché.

I'm much the same way, I got bored with the extremely chaste shoujos quick and fast. I think I read 13 volumes of Kimi no Todoke and to this day I wonder why I put myself through so much torture. You're right about going the josei route, but unfortunately, the pickings are slim when it comes to scanlations. And of the few that I do read and follow, the scanlations have either stopped or they're really slow.

But my favorite josei right now is probably Futago by Iketani Ricaco (though my favorite work by her is Six Half). I think the best thing about Futago is the subtle build-up between the couple. It's one of the few romance mangas where you definitely have to read between the lines to figure out when they do start falling in love, and I believe the romance develops halfway so that there's a decent amount of time spent on the relationship aspect as well. I hate it when the story ends when the couple finally gets together

I see you like Ai Yazawa, have you read Paradise Kiss? That's another classic.

Himitsu no Ai-chan is cute and semi-smutty? It's not outrageously smutty (like Desire Complex) and I don't think that there's any dub-con there either. They become a couple real early on too, the rest is just coping with Ai's "secret" and their relationship.

Thank guys, I've read the majority of these (and watched the animes, actually I may not have read Hachimitsu to Clover, I can't recall but I definitely watched the anime). I actually didn't mind the art too much in Fukuyadou Honpo, definitely seen worse, it's not even bad so much as outdated. There are a couple here I haven't read so I'll definitely check those out. I've got a bunch of manga on my reading list but, like Clover (which I was reading), many have stalled in scanlation, which is too bad. If you can think of any other suggestions to add to the list, feel free
