Actually, in most cases, the space remains the same until you overwrite it with someone else

Is that so?
Does that mean my computer is a freak of science?

so I got 50GB of anime stored in a folder named ANIME in an external hard drive, and this morning, it mysteriously disappeared.
no, i did not delete anything
it still uses up 50GB of free space, so maybe it's still in there...somewhere?

anyone has an idea what's going on 😕

edit: i lost all folders. and folders only.

Did you try checking your Recycle Bin?
I know you said you didn't delete it, but who knows, it might be there.
The space remains the same until you empty the Recycle Bin.

i checked the Bin, nothing there

you mean something else right?

anyway, after some time googling, i found this: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070805155642AANnkmw
actually the trick didn't work at first, but after i restarted my computer, i can see the folder again.

i'm happy that the data is still there, but hey, another problem pops up. all of the folders are now hidden, and i cannot unhidden them (the hidden box in folder properties cannot be unchecked)

You probably have a malware that hides folders.
Been there, done that.
It was annoying to get rid of, though.

Just in case it is the same one that I had, check your C drive for a file named "ntde1ect".
If it's there, delete it. If it comes back....delete it and go google for how to get rid of it. It gets a little...troublesome.

HI,

I have a question about World of Warcraft. Recently when I have been playing the game I would sometimes get lag when I run a heroic or raid going from 60fps to 4,2 or 1fps and it would last for a minute or more. Though while this is happening my latency is either green or yellow. Now even when I quest this happens to me.

Is there a problem with my internet or my video card?

My laptop is an Asus G50VT and my graphics card is an nvidia Geforce 9800m GS 512mb

Thought that was a server-side lag?
I've been getting them recently too, especially during heroics. I wasn't the only one either. My whole group got lagged in Halls of Origination last night. It only lasted about 5-15 seconds though.

ya, a lot of people have the same problem. Might be a patch bug from the latest hot fix or something. So far there have been no solutions for it. At first it was only heroics and raids for me, now regardless of where I am it can happen to me.

Then perhaps it COULD be a hardware problem. If not the specs, it could be due to a heated core. Happens to me during summer - gotta reapply the thermal paste >_<

I have a question for web developers. How do you take into account the different browsers users use? I'm currently trying to write code for a website, but the whole position aspect is a challenge for me because I don't know how to position elements correctly that would work for all browsers.

Btw I'm currently a tyro, basing my knowledge off of a crash course & self-teaching.

i somehow got a program on my laptop called "System Tool" and it disables any actions i try. IT says i have many trojans and viruses on my PC and i should by the full version. I tried to deinstall it via another user, but it doesn´t show up as program nor can i find any files The other users on the PC are not infected by this. Is there any way to get rid of this program without paying for it?

Do not pay. Ever.
Also, do not access bank accounts and such,
since it is probably also a keylogger that records
everything you write.

Get hijackthis or something and remove with it.
If the malware is very simple, you can try running MSconfig (I assume
you have windows since you got a malware program) just by typing
msconfig to the search box in the start menu and go to the services
tab in the msconfig, click the checkbox that makes only stuff not by microsoft
visible, then disable the services you do not want to start at start up.
Also disable all the useless shit in the startup tab of it.
Then just manually remove it.

If it however is a more complex program, you have to forcefully remove
it with hijackthis or such program.

If you are using firefox, I suggest you get noscript for it after you have gotten rid of
the program. Java applets won't start that way and you are spared a lot of free poker
sites and useless shit. Though you must always allow the new pages you visit to the
allowed sites for java, in case they need java, such as some manga viewers.

it isn´t on the list. and antivir doesn´t find it either. it only shows this message:
Warning!
Application cannot be executed. The file cmd.exe is infected.
Please activate your antivirus software.

System Tool Warning
Your PC is infected with dangerous viruses. Activate antivirus protection to prevent data loss and avoid the theft of your credit card details.

and somehow my wallpaper is blue and shows a warning

LOL
Sounds like a case of "AntiVirus". It makes you think that you're installing an anti-virus, but you're in fact, installing a trojan.
Whatever you do, don't "Activate protection".

hijackthis told me following:
for some reason you system denied access to the Host file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, hijackthis may not be able to fix this

GG, I'd say.
Either buy an anti-virus...or "buy" an anti-virus to get rid of it, or format.
Go get AVG or something (not my recommendation, but it's free)
