Dude, look ar the eyes! One horizontal slit, the other a vertical slit (kinda).

The boy in the image has human irises and most probably human pupils with the word "insidious" in his right eye and "is" in his left.
There is no similarity.

I think it's for the sake of drama.
Shadowing a certain part of the character's face makes it appear more mysterious, dramatic, intimidating, etc.
