I got a virus on my computer last night.. McAfee caught it but it couldn't be cleaned so it got deleted. However, this morning when I turned on my comp, I couldn't access any of my files b/c apparently, something is wrong w/registry thingies for windows explorer, this does something to stop activeX and basically make me not able to access files saved on my comp.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
(BTW, I'm on Win 2000 Pro SP4)

The actual error says "Your current security settings prohibit running active X controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly."

Things I've tried:
-changing security settings on internet explorer
-flipping through my active X registries, but they were all on the proper settings
-reinstalling internet explorer
-restarting my computer
-looking for a version of windows explorer for Windows 2000, couldn't find one

Ehem, I was just wondering...exactly what is a drawing/graphic tablet? I was on DA a few days ago, and this person was showing a timeline with how her drawing used to be and how it changed. Before a year she purchased a tablet, her art wasn't so good...and then it significantly changed after she bought a tablet. So it piqued my interest, and I'm wondering what this drawing tablet is? I'm gonna guess it's connected to drawing digitally, but I don't know. I Googled for answers, but it didn't really give me a thorough answer. So I was wondering if anyone could help?

As far as I know, a drawing tablet is basically a computer peripheral that acts as a substitute for the mouse. As you can use a pen to draw digitally, it makes the task easier for people who are not used to or uncomfortable with using a mouse to draw.

It should be obvious, atleast it is to me, that drawing a picture using a pen will make the action more instinctive, as we use the pen much more compared to the mouse.
I think it's different for people who are comfortable drawing with a mouse, though.

Edit - It can also be a separate computer altogether, like HP Touchsmart tm2t. Some people choose tablets like that just because of the graphics applications.

Think of it as a mouse, but it pen form with a "mousepad" to draw on.

edit: Also, having one doesn't necessarily mean your drawings are gonna get better.
If you're bad at drawing on pencil and paper, chances are, you're gonna be just as bad with a tablet.
However, it does allow one to make "better" art as mistakes are easily undo-able/cleanly erased, unlike traditional art where there is less room for mistakes.

Can anyone suggest a way for me to gauge how good my English is, and how to improve it? I just wrote a piece that I thought was pretty good, and a few other people said so too, but then someone said it's tenses were wrong, and I think this person is probably right - I was trying for a past, but still present tense.

Anyway, ideas?

You sound fairly fluent. But judging on post-sized writing has its limits. Try finding Cambridge Certificate exercises to determine your level. They are literally all over the net.

I've written something to help new members. Give it a try ... http://bookstove.com/manga/japanese-manga-and-anime-disambiguation/

Your link has nothing to do with his question.

From what I have seen Casey, there isn't a website that can look over you paper to check verb-tense agreement. However, you can look at the OWL site to check out their exercises and tense agreement explanation.

I AGREE WITH TSUTO. YES, THIS IS ALL CAPS BECAUSE I AM BEING SUPER SERIOUS.

And Casey, nashi's question is straight to the point. There isn't anything more needed.

How can I recommend a series to someone when I don't know what he/she likes? You guys may know more about the series, and love it enough to recommend it, but I certainly don't. Actually, I don't like the series at all. If nashi felt the same way about the specific genre as I do, then I wouldn't recommend it. But if he/she felt the same as you guys, then I would recommend it.
It's simple, really 🙂
