well to be honest, ive never seen any anime or game based movies that ever turned out to be very great. those are worlds of fantasy to be seen in a fantasizing manner, converting it to reality with their view in directing without being a big anime or game fan turns out to be no good.

like, look at death note, battle royale, doom, tomb raider, dead or alive , resident evil ( i never liked it ).

mortal kombat and silent hill would be my fav...

director : christopher gantz ? guillermo del toro ? truth is i can't find a proper answer . I think the movie should be directed like a drama and so it would require a strict director like Eastwood or Lumet but they have no interest at all in this kind of litterature . Cameron do know mangas since he's planning to adapt Battle Angel Alita but I don't think he would be eager to do another manga in the wake of this.

-guts : thomas jane (le punisher)
-griffith : hayden christensen (anakin skywalker) or gaspard uliel
-caska : halle berry

-judeau : Chris marquette (girl next door , little miss sunshine , there will be blood)
-pippin : the Rock . He just has to be massive , strong and mute .
-corkus : sean bean (Lord of the ring ,troy , goldeneye) or even better alan rickman . Both of them are perfect in displaying sly characters.
-rickert :Haley Joel Osment ( the 6th sense , AI)

Zod : Ron Perlman (the beauty and the beast , hellboy , justice in afro samourai)
princesse charlotte : katie holmes (she's naturally good looking and dull)
the king : robert de niro.

casting for the 1st opus : the movie would stop to the same point than the anime . The eclipse. 2H30.

Anyway never heard of a manga having been adapted by a westerner . Either it's 2nd rate live movie (deathnote) or it's never produced. The only exception being for me Crying freeman hence gantz as a director.... But his other movies were so bad it made me scream.

halle berry is the living picture of caska .
A wrester is precisely what i was trying to avoid : his play is bound to be emotionless while a character like Guts has to depict a unbelievable fury and traumas running very deep inside him . This is not Conan . The eclipse , this sheer moment of madness requires a impressive body AND a great actor.
As mentionned before I see Berserk as a drama . It involves real actor and a real director . So the same goes for the Wachowski (not brothers anymore....) : I mean take a look at their incoming flick and i think you can have a relatively accurate idea of their precision . Speedracer is so bad on the beginning I thought it was a joke of a movie a Uwe Boll .

Why not Joseph Levitt indeed ? The character of Griffith must be a kind of feerie psychopathe . A perfect and totally inhumane being who discloses now and then his insane desire . A scene like the one when he bathes and scorches himself after having slept with this ugly rich man would be quite interesting with levitt after misterious skin.

i often think who i'd like to see play guts in a live action, but i can't think of any known actors who i'd like to see in the role. same for griffith, but i don't really think on his that much

you mean than the characters are supposed to be younger ? well i don't think so but even if you're right then at least they don't look so : take a look at guts with his countless scars , and his white hairs ...
What's more you seem to understimate the power of cosmetics and photoshop.... In buffy the vampire slayer actor were 30 years old and were playing 20 years old teenagers without anyone bitching about it .In harry potter , Lor and other mainstream movies actors look a lot younger than they really are .

Trust me : the real problem with this casting is it is totally impossible .It's a manga so right now it belongs to a no man's land of the litterature . I look forward to Cameron's Battle Angel Alita just to see if Hollywood brains are clever enough to get interested into manga . Right now it's not deemed as bankable . But they will make up their mind once a huge success with a manga adadpation will occur . I mean when you look at the flock of HF movies (narnia,eragon,golden compass,etc...) in the wake of LoR while those books existed for decades (same thing goes for the super heroe trend) it's obvious that they just don't care about the topic of the movie they produce.

I think there is bound to be a Berserk movie some time. It's too epic to ignore. The problem is it's massive amount of explict content in all forms an ways. If someone was to make it, it has to be a huge fan of the series, not just some prick looking for a buck.

And even if the mangaka has made him aged on purpose all the remarks (the way the fairy is mocking shrieke crush on a "old man" and a lot of other things like that) make think of him like a 30 something years old who has gone through a lot of ordeal.

IF it happens you can already forget most of the explicit content.... take a look at the anime : this is approximetely the best you can expect : no sex , the most heinous part erased (for instance the apostle-old-men beast that rape women ,tear their limbs, disemboweled them, mock the disabled griffith and try to rape caska before being crushed by zod) .
Once again Battle Angel Alita will be of crushing importance . 'Cause Cameron
likes to play the dabbler . So even if he does shit , the other hollywood brains won't go more far . Especially if the movie fails on the market.
