Okay, I just read chapter 50, and I was like, wtf! Snake is back? At first I didn't even remember who Snake was, because he seemed like such a minor character at the time, but apparently his role didn't end with the circus arc like I'd originally thought. Is Snake becoming a main character? How awesome would that be?

I love how Yana Toboso doesn't make it obvious right away which characters are important and which one's aren't, and a lot of characters you thought weren't very important (Madame Red, Grell, the doctor from the circus arc, and now Snake) end up being really important.

When I read that Phelps was bitten by a snake the first thing that came to my mind was that Snake came to the mansion. I don't think he'll be a main character. But I do believe he will play a big part in the next arc maybe since Ciel could have ordered Sebastian to kill him if he didn't find him of any use. After lying to Snake about the disappearance of the circus crew he did tell Sebastian "(...) hold your tongue and everything will go well."

As for Madame Red and Grell they only appeared in the Jack the Ripper arc, though Grell plays a bigger part in the anime. And the doctor... didn't he burn along with the mansion of Baron Kelvin?

yeah the doctor did burn-i just meant that originally you just thought he was a doctor, but then he turned out to be involved with the disappearing children, so he had a more important part then you originally thought.

I can't wait for the next arc to begin.

Oh my gosh, zombiesconfused??!!!! was my first reaction. I agree that snake rocks. i hope he gets more screen time. i loved the part when people were talking about him and ciel tells him that he shouldn't be ashamed of being different. just great.

Lizzy can go die. (haha, no offense to lizzy fans)

@unusuallove, haha our usernames are kind of similar smile

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. He said, in his mind during the backflash, "Ciel is dead". Then he thinks "I am Earl Phantomhive; I am me and I am . . ." . . . what? And with him picking up the ring - it almost seemed like he was becoming someone else. Maybe the ring is more than just a symbol of how he is the head of the Phantomhives. Maybe, to him, it's proof of that. Remember when he got so mad at Lizzy for breaking it? Maybe it's because that ring reassures him that he is who he says he is, even if that's not entirely true.

The way I understood it the first time, Ciel was sacrificed and successfully killed and Sebastian brought him back to life to fulfill his desire for revenge. But maybe what actually happened is more complicated than that.

Also, did anyone else find it a little creepy that Sebastian was getting so much enjoyment from killing the zombies? I think, until now, a lot of the time Yana Toboso lets us forget he's a demon and think of him as someone who simply fulfills Ciel's desires, no matter what they are. But this chapter was kind of a reminder that, yeah, he's a demon. He likes killing. It's fun for him. And by the look on Ciel's face, it seems like maybe we weren't the only ones who needed reminding of that . . . 0_0

saeko anyone? well, it´s good that she shows his demon side a little. i think he was acting to human lately. but i think another reason for the splatter was that toboso-sensei could include the flashback.

the best thing was after the zombie killing when sebastian smiled Ciel kinda looks like a girl after that laugh

I was impressed this chapter - Lizzy wasn't half as scared and useless as I thought she'd be. I mean, she still was useless, but she was acting pretty brave. Kudos to her!

I love Snake. He's just awesome. Even though Ciel's only using him, I still love their relationship . . .

Ciel gets more interesting with every chapter. I have no idea whats up with his past, but whatever it is it's making me really curious. And what's the deal with his relationship with Sebastian?

About his relationship with Sebby: I'm beginning to second guess how much he cares about him. I used to think that he really cared about him, but he acted like he didn't because he didn't want to admit it/didn't want other people to know. Now I think maybe it's the other way around: that he's actually disgusted by Sebastian and loathes him, but he tolerates him only because of the contract. Ciel cares about Lizzy. You can tell. He cares about Snake. You can tell. He even cared about the wordsmith. You could tell. I see no signs pointing to him caring about Sebastian. Not anymore.

why should ciel care about the demon that will steal his soul? sebastian is a tool for ciel and his interested in him is only caused because of human curiosity. in the manga, you can see that ciel always cares about the persons with good personalities, but treats the ones with bad personalities coldly. and sebastian´s personality is real crap.

lol, wow, I'm guessing you don't like Sebastian. smile

Anyway, here's why it's easy to think Ciel would care about him.

It's undeniable that they have some sort of special, untouchable relationship. And yes, it could be and probably is solely based off of their contract. But that doesn't change the fact that, in the end, it's the two of them against the world. Do you get what I'm saying? It's like, no matter how much they appear to hate each other, if one of them had to choose between the other one and any other person, they would always choose the other one. If Ciel had to choose between Lizzy and Sebastian, he would always pick Sebastian. And I get that that's because of the contract, and because choosing Sebastian is ultimately choosing himself. But it's easy to think Ciel cares about Sebastian when he'd give up his whole world for him.

The funny thing is, though, in light of this chapter, it seems to me that Ciel is even more cold-hearted than before. I thought maybe that he saw Sebastian as a parental figure (after all it would make sense; when they met he was young, had just lost his parents, and desperately needed help), and that would explain why he's so attached to Sebastian (I mean, we all remember this), but if he really does just loathe Sebastian, then he's really cold hearted. He's given up on everything, if the one person he'd give everything up for really is only a tool.

It makes him more Ciel more interesting, but it's sad, because it means that truly, the only thing he really cares about is revenge. That nothing else matters. And I know that that's what he's been saying all along, but it's been hard to believe it. Sometimes he'll so young and so human, that it seems impossible for him to be as harsh as he acts. But who knows. That's what makes him a great character.

ciel does only live for his revenge. he is not that cold to abandon all his human feelings, but he would sacrifice everything for revenge. he doesn´t even care about his life since he gave it away just to fullfill his wish. i think he has more reason then that, because in one of the eraly chapters he menitons the voices of the previous heads of the family. i think the family has a secret that´s way more bigger than the fact that they are on the dark side
and yes. i despite sebastian, but sometimes i get the shivers for him on because he looks hot

oh. my. god. can you say MAJOR CielxSebastian action? I think this could be the best chapter so far in terms of showing how much Ciel matters to Seb. Who cares how. The fact is that he does. That's good enough for me. Hell, did you see his expression when the Undertaker threw Ciel over the edge ?? How awesome is it that Ciel is Sebastian's one weak point?
