Well, now there was a change.

We have found a translator for Revenge Classroom, so now we need some for:

  • Psychic Odagiri Kyouko's Lies - seinen mystery comedy by the author of Liar Game. Seven volumes published, only five chapters translated so far. Wordy, and the author is brainy, so be prepared to translate complicated schemes on a variety of subjects. We have a chapter cleaned and redrawn and a willing proofreader.

  • Shounen Y - supernatural shounen that dabbles in metaphysical and ethics matters. Three chapters were scanlated at low quality, so we'd like to begin from scratch. Finished at eight volumes. Chapters aren't too wordy or hard to translate.

Tragic irony is the best word to describe Death Toll now.

I should have seen it coming. I should have known that I was pleading too much, coaxing too much, throwing my requests in the wind, mindless of where the wind might take them.

The gods took pity. Or rather, they took notice, but no pity at all. They just chortled, "Look at their poor bastard, cursing us because we won't give him translators! Well honey, beware of what you wish for!"

In five weeks, four translators have applied to Death Toll. Now, our edition department is unable to keep up.

Not that they are all hyperactive, churning out scripts like there's no tomorrow, but when one department more than doubles, a glut is bound to happen in the others.

Royal, our super-freelancer who's almost a celebrity in the scanlation scene (in contrast to us), is stuck in real life matters, but he will soon be back in Teizokurei Monophobia.

I am lucky. All my teams are complete. And no, it's not because I am admin, here, but because one of my series is our flagship, Ouroboros, which takes precedence over anything else and thus has a complete team; my other two series, The moon is beautiful tonight, but first, die and Sing Yesterday for me, are joint projects; and Suicide Island is just blessed with a committed team.

However, our Ouroboros cleaner, who is going to leave us a stack of ten chapters, is going to retire soon, so we will need a replacement. This is the test: https://goo.gl/K8b9ON. (Ouro has the privilege of getting a recruitment drive well in advance of the moment we'll need the position filled, so you may have to wait a while to get your hands busy.)

As for Sacchan, she will translate Revenge Classroom to completion, and cleaning/redrawing will be done by our good friends at iMangaScans, but we need a typesetter (test at https://goo.gl/wv7KcU)

Ringo, our rookie, is lucky, too, but only for now. He's finishing up Underdog, which has a full team, but after he does the next and final chapter (the epilogue), he'll be assigned to one of our stalled projects and then we'll have to find him an entire team.

Then the true problems start.

Momimomi-senpai, the Head of Department, is still stuck with a whole volume of Sprite raws and a team of patient Buddhas who haven't departed in disgust, but are rather waiting… and waiting… and waiting for the cleaner who will finally slay the dragon, senpai's impossible cleaning test, designed specially for it: https://goo.gl/0koujB

As for iddqd, his problem, or rather, my problem is that he is hyperactive and sadistic, and I am his main target. He commands translation power rarely seen in this realm, and accordingly, he chooses to translate precisely the things he knows will send me grovelling before strangers to get them edited. His work on Ichigeki and God, you bastard, I wanna kill you! is backed by full teams, but we desperately need a typesetter and a redrawer for Impossibility Defence, and a full edition team for Satanophany, which he decided to translate just because he knew I was turning down requests to scanlate it, the brute. Tests are available for typesetting (https://goo.gl/wv7KcU) and redrawing (https://goo.gl/qfnsc6 ; include the extra difficulty pages, as this series is very hard). We also need a cleaner, but these are webraws and if you don't want to take our test (https://goo.gl/K8b9ON) just show us some proof that you can erase speech bubbles and we'll take you in. All applicants should be prepared to produce a chapter a week.

Finally, ttcchen is going to translate Nanba MG5 (first chapter almost out), but we will need a full team for that: cleaner (https://goo.gl/K8b9ON), redrawer (https://goo.gl/KIuWmE) and typesetter (https://goo.gl/wv7KcU). It's also webraws, so the cleaner may get a pass if they at least clear bubble properly.

I didn't even bother to tally all up to know how many editors we need, because I don't want to get depressed.

And you think that's all? Well, I decided to defy the gods.

We are still inviting translators for two series we'd like to take up:

  • Psychic Odagiri Kyouko's Lies (http://bit.ly/2kqZX0d) - seinen mystery comedy by the author of Liar Game. Seven volumes published, only five chapters translated so far. Wordy, and the author is brainy, so be prepared to translate complicated schemes on a variety of subjects.

  • Shounen Y (http://bit.ly/2l6OMZB) - supernatural shounen that dabbles in metaphysical and ethics matters. Three chapters were scanlated at low quality, so we'd like to begin from scratch. Finished at eight volumes. Chapters aren't too wordy or hard to translate.

We don't have staff for these. They are prospective projects. The first thing is to get translators. Once we get them, we can use existing staff to put together a bait chapter so we can fish for editors. So we won't ask successful applicants to fire away at redrawing before we can make sure we can get steady releases. The pace in the beginning will be irregular.

Applicants can take this test: https://i.imgur.com/THUEuuk.jpgYou can alternatively ask to translate a chapter of Suicide Island, or we may ask you to do one depending on the result of the test. Don't worry, it will be an untranslated chapter, so the script will be used. And chapters of Suicide Island are short, 20 pages max.

For all positions, applicants should bundle their tests in a compressed file (ZIP, RAR, 7Z, whatever), upload it to a cloud service and and either post the link in our home page (http://bit.ly/2kC40Zk) or send it to me as a PM (Wraith at deathtollscans.net). We expect them to be able to do a chapter in a week (though there are no control freaks here, we understand real life issues as well as anyone). We've had compatibility issues before, so GIMP users will only be accepted for cleaning, for everything else we require applicants to use Photoshop.

People with experience who want to bypass the test on account of having samples of past work will have the test replaced by an actual chapter of the series they want to work on. This still means it is a test: if you fail, the chapter edited by you won’t be used. It’s high risk (having an entire chapter discarded because you didn’t pass), high gain (working on something that will actually be used instead of a test). People without experience can’t take that route, at least in principle. (If you contact me and I am in a good mood, I may let you have a try at your own risk, but don't count on it.)

And that's our sad story. Please take pity and apply already!

Bump! Things are still as in the previous post. Tallying everything up, we'd need 50% more people than we have to get all our projects running smoothly. Damn, how did things get like this?

Bump! We have found a cleaner, so that's the current list of needed staff:

We need typesetters for Satanophany and Revenge Classroom.

We also need cleaners, redrawers and typesetters for Nanba MG5 and Impossibility Defence.

Our cleaning test is at: https://goo.gl/K8b9ON (We’ll be lenient with mistakes by applicants for Nanba, because it uses webraws and you only really need to know how to clear bubbles. But if you don’t pass the test, you’ll only be allowed to clean webraws for us. Applicants for Impossibility Defence need to pass the test completely.)

Our typesetting test is at: https://goo.gl/wv7KcU

For Satanophany and Nanba MG5, the redrawing test is at https://goo.gl/KIuWmE. For Impossibility Defence, it is at https://goo.gl/qfnsc6 .

We are also inviting translators for Shounen Y and Psychic Odagiri Kyouko's Lies. Our test is at https://i.imgur.com/THUEuuk.jpg .

For all positions except translation, applicants should bundle their tests in a compressed file (ZIP, RAR, 7Z, whatever), upload it to a cloud service and and either post the link in our home page (http://bit.ly/2kC40Zk) or send it to me as a PM (here or to Wraith at deathtollscans.net, Kendama at Batoto). We expect them to be able to do a chapter in a week (though there are no control freaks here, we understand real life issues as well as anyone). We've had compatibility issues with GIMP files before, so we require applicants to use Photoshop.

Bump! We're good on cleaning, at least for now, and we've found a redrawer and typesetter, too. So now our recruitment drive isn't far from over! 😎

We need typesetters for Nanba MG5 and Impossibility Defence, which also needs a redrawer.

Our typesetting test is at https://goo.gl/wv7KcU

The redrawing test is at at https://goo.gl/qfnsc6 (Yes, you need to do the difficult pages, too.)

Bump! We're good on redrawing, too. Just two typesetters and we're done recruiting for the time being! 😎

(Unless, of course, translators decide to take our invitation and join us, but that's cause for celebration, not worry.)

We need typesetters for Nanba MG5 and Impossibility Defence.

Our typesetting test is at https://goo.gl/wv7KcU

We are also inviting translators for Shounen Y and Psychic Odagiri Kyouko's Lies. Our test is at https://i.imgur.com/THUEuuk.jpg .

Prospective translators are advised to cultivate patience in the beginning. New projects in a small group like ours begin without a full edition staff. If you join, you'll be asked to produce at most a couple of scripts to produce bait chapters to fish for editors. Releases may take a while to become regular as we assemble a dedicated team.

I can't volunteer for any of those things.

But thank you VERY MUCH for "Sing Yesterday for Me" and "Suicide Island"!

Bump! We're back to needing a lot of people again.

First is a translator for Impossibility Defence. Our current one lost interest in the series, but we still have a full team and they are not going anywhere as they have other projects.

We need typesetters for Nanba MG5 and Shounen Y.

Our typesetting test is at https://goo.gl/wv7KcU

We are also inviting translators for Psychic Odagiri Kyouko's Lies. Our test is at https://i.imgur.com/THUEuuk.jpg . This series doesn't have a team yet, so the last paragraph of this post applies.

Bump! Quite a few changes relative to the last post.

One of our translators, Koala, lost interest in Impossibility Defence, and after chapter 07 we’re out of scripts. This means the series will go back into hiatus if no one applies to translate it. We have a full team for that, so we can get chapters out reasonably fast if only we find a translator. If you are interested, instructions for applying can be found below.

One of our translators finished his first assignment and decided to take up Shounen Y. We're going to relaunch this series from the first chapter, so we need motivated people to complete the team: a typesetter and a redrawer. The translator isn't incredibly fast, and the series is finished in Japan, so we'll do it at a laid-back pace (something like a chapter a month, unless he speeds up in producing scripts). We also need you to be willing to do the first three chapters even though a speedscanner has already done them (no redrawing, no proofreading, sketchy translation).

We also need a redrawer for God, you bastard, I wanna kill you!

Our typesetting test is at: https://goo.gl/wv7KcU

The redrawing test is at https://goo.gl/qfnsc6. (You don't need to do the pages marked DIFFICULT. Shounen Y and God you bastard… are a little too hard for the general test, but not so hard that you need to do our full test in its entirety.)

We are also inviting translators for Psychic Odagiri Kyouko's Lies. Our test is at https://i.imgur.com/THUEuuk.jpg .

For all positions except translation, applicants should bundle their tests in a compressed file (ZIP, RAR, 7Z, whatever), upload it to a cloud service and and either post the link in our home page (http://bit.ly/2kC40Zk) or send it to me as a PM (Wraith at deathtollscans.net). We expect them to be able to do a chapter in a week (it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be required to do so - it will depend on the project, though we expect proofreaders to be faster than the other team members). We've had compatibility issues with GIMP files before, so we require applicants to use Photoshop. For translators, just send me the link to the script, no need to compress it.

People with experience who want to bypass the test on account of having samples of past work will have the test replaced by an actual chapter of the series they want to work on. Bump! Lots of changes this time.

We need, desperately so, a translator for Impossibility Defence.

And to be able to release the chapters of it we have in stock from the previous translator, we need a redrawer, too, as ours are currently overwhelmed.

And because the typesetter is going to have more work in another series, we need a typesetter for it, too.

We also need a redrawer for God, you bastard, I wanna kill you! and an extra one to help in Saru Lock.

And we would still like a translator for Psychic Odagiri Kyouko's Lies.

So, all in all, we need two translators, four redrawers and two typesetters to be in a comfort zone.

Our typesetting test is at: https://goo.gl/wv7KcU

The redrawing test is at https://goo.gl/qfnsc6. (If you want to do Saru Lock or Impossibility Defence, you need to do the pages marked DIFFICULT as well. Not so for Shounen Y and God, you bastard… they are a little too hard for the general test, but not so hard that you need to do the difficult pages.)

We have a new translation test: https://i.imgur.com/blqk3D8.png

But in addition to the translation, we want you to transcribe the text of the test. You won't need to do it while translating manga, but it's important for us to know that you can. We won't accept machine translations.

We. are. desperate.

We need… REDRAWERS! FOUR OR FIVE OF THEM!! PLEASE!!

Against all odds, yet another translator joined us last week. Right now we have two translators for every redrawer, which is totally preposterous.

This is our redrawing test: https://goo.gl/qfnsc6For some series you need to do the full test, for others you can leave out the pages marked "DIFFICULT" I say which is which in the descriptions below.

So, the redrawers are needed for:

  • Impossiblity Defence - a seinen mystery/horror series, with a touch of dark humour, very violent. Still in serialisation, with a four-volume backlog. The raws are self-scanned, of high-quality. Chapters are 30-40 pages long. We have two chapters typeset, only waiting redrawing to be released. Include the difficult pages in the test.

  • God, you bastard, I wanna kill you! - a seinen mystery comedy, also violent. Currently on hiatus in Japan, with a backlog of 14 chapters. Chapters are 30 pages long on average. We also have two typesets for this one. Leave the difficult pages out.

  • Shounen Y - a shounen supernatural series with a touch of metaphysics. We'll re-scanlate from chapter 01 because the three chapters available were released by a speedscanner. Chapters are 30 pages long on average. Finished in Japan at eight volumes. Leave the difficult pages out.

  • Saru Lock - a shounen action adventure. Chapters are short (18 pages) and we have another redrawer, we need someone to share the burden. Include the difficult pages.

  • A confidential project - it's a shounen mediaeval action fantasy. Chapters are 30 pages on average. Include the difficult pages.

Applicants should bundle their tests in a compressed file (ZIP, RAR, 7Z, whatever), upload it to a cloud service and and either post the link in our home page (http://bit.ly/2kC40Zk) or send it to me as a PM (Wraith at deathtollscans.net). Bump!

This are looking up for us. Now we don't need redrawers, desperately, though we could do with a couple more to be comfortable.

This is our redrawing test: https://goo.gl/qfnsc6For some series you need to do the full test, for others you can leave out the pages marked "DIFFICULT" I say which is which in the descriptions below.

We also need a typesetter for Psychic Odagiri Kyouko's Lies. The test is here: https://goo.gl/vQuPZA

Applicants should bundle their tests in a compressed file (ZIP, RAR, 7Z, whatever), upload it to a cloud service and and either post the link in our home page (http://bit.ly/2kC40Zk) or send it to me as a PM (Wraith at deathtollscans.net). We expect them to be able to do a chapter in a week (it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be required to do so - it will depend on the project, though we expect proofreaders to be faster than the other team members). We've had compatibility issues with GIMP files before, so we require applicants to use Photoshop.

Bump!

Okay, the redrawer positions are mostly filled for now, though that may change very soon.

Now, we need typesetters for:

Neither will be released very quickly, so you can work at a leisurely pace.
